The only song written by Serj and ONLY by Serj (in terms of the central melody and lyrics, obviously), it's quite a personal song that speaks of how schooling bears no relation to the future life of a child, yet it makes one generation discipline another ad infinitum. |

The way the lyrics are printed in the booklet shows that rather than cubert (fun game!), it's CUBErt, as in cube root, a number that comes from dividing another by itself, then by the original number again.
I think it's about culture becoming dumber and dumber, with clichés everywhere that no-one dares question. We must sit and watch our society crumble like an audience in a theatre, with popcorn and mass-produced humanity (in cans). |

Sako is Daron's guitar tech. Another Sako also did the artwork for Serj's book, but it's the tech they were talking about.
As for the song, I think it's about war again. Those incapacitated by using kombucha mushroom herbal drugs are compared to people who go to war (wearing helmets that make their heads look like mushrooms, as in the video), not really knowing what they're doing - not being there all the time. The soldiers play russian roulette, though they are not holding the guns - they risk their lives daily. The experience maddens them, and they later lock themselves in their rooms, just like drug users. It's about parallels... |

I think this song is about hallucinogenic drugs and getting stuck with flashbacks and tripping - leaving your body on the other side.
It also comments on the contradiction of different forms of history and calls upon Nietzschian iedas of the 'herd' and breaking free from that oppressive society. |

If you think this song is by system, you really should listen to their albums some more. Not only is the drumming nothing like John's, I don't think it's likely that Daron's taken up the ocarina or that Shavo's decided to sample N64 games. It's by The Rabbit Joint, and although the singer does sound a teensy bit like Serj, his accent and inflection are actually pretty different. If you can differentiate Daron and Serj's voices, you should be able to recognise the fact that this is NOT Serj. |

My favorite SOAD song, I agree that it is about control - the v-chip implanted into people to command their behaviour. The nocturnal imagery - the moon presiding over all, dreams and awakening - reflects the state of darkness society is held under. It is a call to escape the bonds of 'mind-control' the system induces. |

Here's what Serj and Hohn had to say about this song, to Kerrang! magazine:
Serj: Erm, how can I put this? You know how a paedophile looks at a young boy? Well, the way that a paedophile looks at a young child is the way that...someone is looking at their own mind.
John: Er...I don't know what that meant.
Serj: People can define it for themselves.
Puts a new perspective on the song for you? Definitely does for me. The lines 'Why can't you see that you are my child' and 'walk with me my little child/to the forest of denial' take on quite some added signifance, non? Add the ideas of the little boy smiling and it'll all be well and Johnny being a sweet little boy (I will always want you) and it seems there is another agenda behind System's fine tunes!
