This song paints a perfect picture of how I felt after my boyfriend left me. I decided to leave town because I couldn't be close to him anymore. Every time I go back I feel suffocated just by seeing him. The "standing still in your past, floating fast" line, just makes me think of me. I was standing there waiting for him and also it was like I was treading water, trying to keep my head above. He was in one place, just floating around, like in circles or something, waiting for her, like a hummingbird. For me, my move away from him, allowed me to escape from people even knowing, I don't have a constant reminder. I think that's what Jeff was trying to portray, even though he can't stop thinking about her. |

I personally love the music, beat, and lyrics of this song. It always struck me, and still does. Now it means more to me, because I feel like he's talking about how he really cares about this person, but maybe he is afraid to commit. I think there are a lot of double meanings in this song, and when I first heard it, I didn't know what it was talking about, but now I see. It kinda reminds me of this guy, because, even though he hurt me to an extent, I loved being with him, and when I think of him, I get happy. It's insane... :)

I don't understand how everyone is saying that this song is about being with someone you shouldn't be with or what not. Because he is so happy. He says that he "can't remember life before her name"... Why would she be wrong for him? He talks about how perfect it is:
"its the kind of thing you only see in scented glossy magazines"...... He also says that he loves her. So someone needs to give me a more clear explaination on why she is wrong for him.... Please. :) THis is also one of my favs. by John.

I think that it is great that there are so many that appreciate this song as much as I do. There's something about it, that gets to me. It's actually really meaningful to me, I never thought too hard about what it was talking about until I read something on Sarah's website about how it's about being so obcessed with someone that you would actually become violent with them. Maybe I am crazy, but I am beginnning to think that DC has a lot of *drinking inneundo* in it. Because : "The bottle is waiting the cap is twisted begging to be used and so are you." I can see that maybe Chris has this alcoholism kind of feeling, like when he gets sad about her he wants to go drink. Screaming Infedelities also says something about it.. He could just be relating alcohol to this girl being used because he hates her, the bottle is waiting is a form of saying you are waiting to get screwed, in my opinion. I have been thinking this for a long time.

I would just like to understand what the "break away" phrase is saying. I think that this song is about reassurance. He loves her and wants her but is still not sure exactly how she feels or what she wants. I can see the points about him wanting two things or what not. That is a good interpretation of this song, I just feel like there is a little more depth. It seems to me that John Mayer is always standing back, and is being put on the back burner by these girls... "Can I have my cake, can I have you too?" Maybe she is jealous or selfish. I feel like it's in close relation to "Man on the Side".. Maybe it was written for the same person.... |

I think that he sat down and watched the movie and then wrote the song for it. I am not definitely sure, but it seems like I saw something on VH1 about it. This song to me is about being deeply hurt. Just like, when you are on a "high" in life (the cloud) and somehow it gets taken away. But it's really depressing how he takes things that would be in "pop" songs like blame, and says "there is no blame only shame, when you beg you just complain". He doesn't even want her to beg in my eyes, because it seems like, maybe it annoys him... "ashley007" I agree that people need to make more comments! :) I love knowing how people interpret songs. |

I love the phrase "All your mental armour drags me down" I think that it can relate to so many things. I never thought of it the way "Damelloman24" does. But I can definitely see it like that. The way it says "We can't breathe when we come around" has a definite significance, it's not like he said, I can't breathe when you come around, he is including himself, it's like, with her, he is a different person.. |

I wish that someone would comment on this song. Because at the moment it is my favorite song. I listen to it repetitively and I know there has to be a reason. The part " I want to rock your gypsy soul" shakes me. I guess I don't even understand what the phrase "into the mystic" means.. It's just taken me to different levels. |
