this should be "21 gun shot salute" not .21, as it is not referring to any caracteristic of the gun but rather to the honorary custom of firing 21 gun shots at the arrival or in this case, departure, of someone of great importance (typically in the military). |

this song is almost definitly about society, "you gotta have a job", and people trying to get as much money and accomplish as many superficial goals("build up the monuments and steeples") and "losing all touch" with the world, and in doing so destroying it. the one part i dont get is:
Message read on the bathroom wall
Says, "I don't feel at all like I fall."
there's a lot of wisdom in message on bathroom walls, i wonder what this means... |

Actually looking at this song again, the persons perspective that this is from doesn't really seem to care that his dog runs away with them:
"I didn't say much of anything at all"
and he doesn't seem to care that his sister was eaten:
"I guess she was eaten up ok"
and he doesn't seem to care that his dad was fired:
"Well I guess he was fired but that's ok"
and he actually seems like he wants the pack to take him away:
"And I'm sittin outside my my mudlake waiting for the pack to take me away"
he doesn't say anything about resisting or getting away or being mad at any of the bad things that these dogs have done to his family, maybe this song isnt about religion(dogs) ruining lives but about the apathy and ignorance that people exhibit towards it all... it cant be praising religion because "wild pack of family dogs" would not be a nice way of putting it |

i personally highly doubt this song is about self-destruction and drug abuse. i do however thing is about the human races path to an eventual end although not by bombing the hell out of the planet but by pollution and creating non-degradable waste which we just throw into the oceans and onto the earth. and as we're destroying the earth, the last few lines make it seem as though we dont care and we're just relaxing enjoying the diminishing view. |

I was just wondering whether this song possible refers back to 'Jesus Christ was an Only Child' on The Lonesome Crowded West where he says
"Penny found out as her hair was styled
You should hide you kids
While the dogs run wild
Jesus Christ was an only child"
Just a thought. If anything this song is more about how religion ruins your life than anything, with the wild pack being the religious types, and converting the family one by one, until an ironic ending where the dogs get a reward in heaven even though they ruined the lives of these people, but they converted them. I don't think that made sense. |

ok the first 4 lines of the song are definitly about gettings up early in the day and getting ready and leaving your house, and the last 4 lines are about escaping from reality by drinking... but what makes you say it's about high school i dunno, he doesnt really say anything about going anywhere, he just says going outside he sees the crowd so maybe the crowds outside his house say hes in the city then it would be people going to work? i dunno just an idea |
