| Mae – Mistakes We Knew We Were Making Lyrics
| 21 years ago
|
I figured it was about having a baby...
"What at once just seemed the impossible
Now makes perfect sense"
and then there's all of the lines about going to the hospital but these lines really made me think they were referring to having a baby..
"Looking at the world through new eyes
What can now be said
Oh, little one on the other side
Dance until the band stops playing
Sing with all your might" |

I always figured it was referring to the proud, those that think they are morally superior and judge others. It is of course possible that they are using literary references, since they do that quite a bit. |

the word "emo" should be banned, and it's definately without a doubt "great", not "pretty". And this is definately the best song off this CD in my opinion...though the whole CD is great. |

| Brand New – Okay I Believe You, but My Tommy Gun Don't Lyrics

Just another thought, maybe the "cocky" part is actually him being critical of his own behavior or attitude and exaggerating it by writing lyrics like that. After all, I could imagine it would be hard at times to not let your ego get away from you when you are playing to packed clubs of girls who all want you every night. Later on he also says how its hard to have someone to love, even though he could have sex with girls everynight he probably wants something more. I also really don't think he's saying that he really thinks he's "heaven sent" or whatever because of the part where he says "Then ask me what it's like to have myself so figured out/
I wish I knew ". Also...I hate to nitpick lyrics, but I think its "This is the break in the bend" as opposed to ground, and its "concentrating" not "consentrating". The theory about this being about TBS is good too. |

Yes they are very underrated and nothing against NFG, Good Charlotte and all those bands but No Motiv does pretty much what they do, only waaaay better. There is something about their songs, they are so incredible at writing great songs with lyrics that anyone can relate to. They may be simple songs about heartbreak like so many other bands do, but they just do it better. Not only that but they are an incredible live band and such nice down to earth guys. No Motiv is definetly one of the best bands out there and deserve more recognition. |

hmm never thought of that sc0oter, good thinking. And just because a song is not real fast/loud and is about a sad situation doesn't make it emo. If we're working off of that definition, emo has been around longer then rock and roll. |

Sox: Its not that kids are all of a sudden wanting to be in an "outcast" group" since 2001, its just that as you get older more kids want to be "different" or at least don't want to be associated with the "popular" crowd. As I went from Junior High to High School more kids started associating themselves with the alternative crowds and feel the need to label themselves as Goth, Punk or whatever becuause it is a rebellious/non-conformist group, even though they are basically wearing a uniform. Then by college most people realize that no one cares what you listen to or what you wear or whatever, at least in my experience. |

I hear what you are saying Toast, but I know plenty of people that are quick to say the same thing about High Schoolers(and ESPECIALLY 13 year old girls)...we don't especially like it when we go to Shows that a year ago were opening in a small club and now the place is filled with annoying 13, 14, 15...year olds. NOt that all 13 year olds are annoying so maybe you shoulodn't equate annoying conformist teenyboppers to age. And I doubt 10-12 year olds would ever get into bands like AFI, Thursday, Thrice etc....since they are a little beyond their intellectual maturity. I think the most obnoxious people at shows are 15-16 year old guys....sooooo fucking annoying, all pumped full of testorerone and thinking they are the greatest, coolest thing around....I want to smack them so bad sometimes. |

sox...yes, when I said I had written too much, I meant something with too much substance. Not that it matters too much, I mean what are you really going to discuss about this song? OK, one more thing, I hate MTV because it sucks and exploits music. HOWEVER, anyone who instantly stops liking bands simply because they appear on MTV are pretty sad and have lost sight of what music is really about. Theres no way, MTV is gonna make me stop liking Unwritten Law or JEW just because their music videos appeared on MTV. OK...unfortunately I have nothing more to say, and I kind of wish I did cause I don't really have anything else to do...maybe I'll go watch my sister and her friends get drunk downstairs... |

Theres no way I was gonna read ALL of those postings, but whoever said Dashboard is like Bob Dylan is a complete dumbass. That made me laugh very hard. They are soooo completely different and as much as I like Dashboard, he does not even come close to comparing to Dylan in anyway. For those of you with a larger musical knowledge then punk and emo, could you ever imagine Dylan having lyrics like Dashboard? Don't get me wrong, I love both of them but you might as well compare Saves the Day to Thrice simply because they both have distorted guitars. |

Dammit, I was gonna say that about MTV Sox!! DAmn you goin and stealing my comments. ACtaully I was gonna say the solution for people who don't like seeing their bands on MTV is to, not watch it. I never watch MTV personally but if sweetstepper is right and the likes of Jimmy Eat World, GlassJaw and especially THe Get UP Kids are on it then I would definetly watch it....if I didn't have to sit through hours of crap for one good one that is.
Sox: Yes, it is amazing the amount of people who have died in the name of religion. The funny thing to me is when people who are such "devout Christians" are so eager to wage wars on other countres and bomb villages full of innocent families simply to appease the American masses appetite for revenge. Particularly when one of the cornerstones of the Christian faith is forgiveness. I could go on and on about religious violence, I had to read this book for a class last year called "Terror in the Mind of God" about religious terrorism in all of the major religions. I think most religions have very good philisophies to live by, including Wiccans from what you have told me, its just sad what man does with them and how it turns others away from it. I mean who wants to be associated with something that has caused so much suffering? Wow, I have written way too mcuh, especially on an NFG page. |

awww geez, you've never heard baby beluga? Your missing out. We should see if we can make this message board for "My Friends Over You" into our own private messaging board. Not as many people are messaging on this one anymore anyways....go figure. Although I do think there is somewhat of a correlation between age and maturity level, partly since I was a moron when I was a 13 years old, I do not automatically assume anything about anyone. However so many people on this site have to be dumbasses. People probably just attack you for being 13 cause they have no other angle to attack. Anyways, seeing the way you write now as a 13-year-old I would say you are well on your way to becoming a writer. Good job, antagonizing people, thats always fun, although I mostly just do it when people's stupidity is too much for me to keep quiet about it. By the way, whats a Wicca? I read something about Davey Havoc being one, on one of your postings. Is it like a witch or something? Question Number two....How do you put your favorite artists on your profile? I'm feeling like a dumbass again....having to ask all these questions of a 13-year-old girl. Oh well. |

Kneecromancer: You didn't interpret the song you reworded it....example...""and what world have you deftly sold me?" Hes asking what kinda world is he living in?"
Anyways, Thrice is not a Christian Band that preaches religon, they are Christians in a band (Dustin at least, I'm not certain about the rest) whose lyrics reflect their views, questions, idea etc. on life. Either way, you gotta love a band that writes positive lyrics (and can do it about something besides girls) along with incredibly powerful lyrics. |

Someone said that line about the camera seemed a little unfocused but I think thats one of the best lines....Time seems to move differently in a car crash and I think that line describes it very well. Besides that, pictures are often associated with memories or the past (for obvious reasons) and so he's remembering past times, before his friend died. Thats my take on the camera lines anyways. This is definetly one of my favorite Thursday songs, their lyrics are so poetic. |

Yeah, you are definetly not too old if you don't know who Raffie is (I think thats how you spell it). He sings little kids songs, like Baby Beluga....uhmm other ones too I'm sure. Anyways he was all the rage back in the day. I don't care that you're 13, you have some much more intelligent comments then people who I'm sure are much older then you. awww geez, did you read the original comment I posted on? I would like to know that kids "full story" so maybe I could explain it a little better and stop being bitched at because I said what I really thought about self absorbed, melodramatic, whiney "emo" kids. Its makes it even worse that they had the word emo in his name, are people TRYING to stereotype themselves and their music? And yes blinkbomber you are right, there are reasons that people may be treating them badlly like you said but what does that have to do with that I said? I have seen friends (and myself) with people who treat them horribly and they don't realize until the day it blows up in their faces because they want to believe that the person is someone they aren't. This happened to me but I don't wallow in self pity, I get on with it, live my life. Do you get what I am saying? to afipunk84: I don't care, I like Music because I like music, not because its punk or not. I like Bob Dylan and Tom Petty too. Whether Unwritten Law is punk or not, they are a great band. UL may not be punk, but there is also a good argument that either is AFI or Thrice since niether of them resemble what punk originally was. Anyway it doesn't matter, if you like music for its label then you're liking it for the wrong reason. And I never meant to criticize AFI, they are great, I just get a lot more out of Thrice's lyrics. |

IProbablyLikeThrice: First of all, I'm curious, what does the name mean? You should like Thrice they are amazing, and they know how to write about something besides girls....its kind of refreshing. Second of all, I'm sorry if TheEmoKiddo had his/her heart broken, we all have. But you don't have to be a melodramatic, whiney "emo" kid about it. I love emo but some of the people are just WAY to self absorbed, everthings about them and there feelings and how horrible the girl/guy is that didn't like them. TheEmoKiddo would have to have a horrendously sad story for me to retract what I said. I'm sick of people who think they are the only ones who feel pain and feel some need to wallow in their own self pity. OK, I'm done and if anyone agrees with me please say so. And if you really are like that line "you could slit my throat...." then believe me anyone who treats you like shit is not worth your time, even if you are in "love" with them. |

The_Emo_Kiddo...holy crap, get over yourself, there are more important things in this world then whether or not a girl likes you. I don't mean to be an asshole but people like you are why we need to ban the word "emo" from describing any kind of music.
On to the music, TBS is great, I too love that line, but I think it is more funny then sad, because I relate to it and yet it is such a ridiculous sentiment. I learned a long time ago that anyone who treats you like crap is not worth your time. |

If people like great bands like Finch then I would rather encourage them to learn more about good bands rather then call them ignorant and treat them like shit. You too were ignorant of this music once too. Stop being so negative to people, especially those that like bands like Finch rather then the manufactured crap they're blaring on MTV all day long.
