I think it's about someone who tries so hard to fit in, and just when he thinks he has made it it's taken away. When he says he just wanted one--perhaps reffering to a friend of companion. why, do you like playing around with My, narrow scope of reality --the person he likes plays him and pushes him to the extreme. I, can feel it all start slipping I think I'm breaking down--he begins to lose it because he just can't take the pain she puts him through. See but I don't get it --he doesn't know why when he tries so hard she still rejects him Don't you think maybe we could put it on credit --she resents him for making a mistake and he asks if they can put it on credit-meaning she could give him one more chance for now, but remember it and have him pay her back for it later. Don't you think it can take control when I don't let it --the feelings he has for her can take control of him I get stupified --he is dumbfounded by these feelings All the people in the left wing rock And all the people in the right wing rock And all the people in the underground rock I find myself stupified, coming back again All the people in the high rise rock And all the people in the projects rock And all la hente in the bario rock I and myself stupified, coming back again --I think this part is just him expressing how he feels about her playing him. He's telling everybody about her and his feelings. This song is weird, but good, and it's kinda of hard to determine it there is any meaning behind. Oh well, I tried. |

this song is definetely about drugs and how they can run your life. it's about the meaning of life-what directions should we take-why we're here-we're all crawling in the dark trying to find the answers. we all question if we're doing the right things-is the direction we're taking the right one. and also with the question of death-"how much furthur do i have to go"-how much longer will i live. "will the ending be, ever coming suddenly or will i ever get to see the ending to my story"-if anyone has ever lost a friend suddenly and tragicly, especially if they were young with a very promising future, this lyric holds a certain meaning-will i die suddenly or will i grow old and beable to live out my life (story)--is all this preparation and planning for my future in vain--should i torture myself now in order to have a promising future when there's a chance that i could die today. "show me what it's for, make me understand it"-what is this life for-let me understand the underlying meaning behind it all. is there something bigger than life, is there an afterlife-is there a heaven, hell, or a God. these questions haunt all of us, and i think this song just addresses the confusion and the unknowing of the future. |

tool kicks ass! i think there songs can have different meanings to different people depending on their past experiences--i've recently lost a good friend of mine over something stupid to me this song is about a friendship or a relationship that suddenly failed. "I know the pieces fit cuz I watched them fall away"- means that once everything was put together great but then something went wrong and the relationship fell apart. "Testing our communication"- meaning through the relationship there were tests and events that tried to bring the realationship apart but failed. "the light that fuled our fire than has burned a hole between us so"- meaning that the relationship it's self grew old and fell apart on it's own-- "crippling our communication" -means the relationship begins to slow down and slowly fall apart. "no fault none to blame"- meaning it's no ones fault, the relationship just grew old. "to point the finger blame the other" -meaning there is anger and sore feelings and that anger is expressed by putting the blame on the other-just human nature. "to bring the pieces back together and rediscover communitcation" -meaning the relationship will never be over--when you meet a person and share experiences with someone, that person is apart of your life forever and no matter what happens they will always be apart of your life and your experience of living. so, after the relationship has been put on a temporary stand-by, the pieces can still come back together and communication can be rediscovered. "the poetry that comes from the squarring off between and the circling is worth it finding beauty in the dissonace" this is the best part of the song-i believe it means that through the break off of this relationship, there is anger and hurt feelings, and through these feelings one is inspired "finding beauty in the dissonance"-the inspiration that comes from the disagreement of the individuals in the relationship. "ive done the math enough to know the dangers of a second guessing" -meaning that there has been thought put towards re-establishing the relationship and the downfalls that could occur from it. "doomed to crumble unless we grow, and strengthen our communication"-meaning with the sepration, if the people don't grow and realize the mistake of breaking off the relatioship, than communication is lost forever. "cold silence has a tendency to atrophy any sense of compassion"-meaning the silence and lack of communication decreases any compassion felt between the two. "between supposed lovers, between supposed brothers"-lovers being a romantic relationship, brothers being a friendship. |
