The US Gov't brainwashes, is greedy, wages selfish wars. Damn, everyone who believes in capitalism and democracy must now obviously be this way. Anyone who can generalize so much as to say ALL religion is brainwashing you, etc AND can be so arrogant to say it with such conviction (as if we can KNOW anything) just shows their ignorance. Also, lie naked on the floor and let the messaih go all thru our souls? That sounds soothing and a GOOD thing, not rape. My view of the song is that spirituality is a good thing and physical dogmas/icons are a bad thing. Following Christ the man instead of Christ's ideas is where the problem lies. |

| if you say there is nothing you can do, then you've already lost. Sure, US gov't is in need of a new, say more moral, outlook. The only one's who can give it that are the people. We went from WE THE PEOPLE to being mindless fucks who just sit around and let them run us. They are nothing without us and once you realize that (capitalism doesn't work without consumers ;)) you see that WE are the next generation. We are the ones who will take their place and will have to deal with what they've done. So rather than say there is nothing to do, stand up, get involved and be there so you can at least say you tried. | |

Kombucha mushrooms are small brown discs. They are placed in tea and then 'pee' to make the tea taste different. This tea supposively cures a ton of illnesses. A point of interest is that they multiply incredibly fast, Place one in (black) tea and the next day there is another attached to the underside. The next day BOTH will multiply, leaving 4. They grow exponentially. So, he could be refering to people who believe this tea heals. In my opinion, he's refering to population growth and the increase uselessness and laziness of people. He does this to seperate himself from the 'public' or 'masses'. The first verse shows his more hectik, yet reflective lifestyle. Finding his happiness thru openmindedness and acceptance. The second verse I see as a 'dischordant' or HHOS (ha ha only serious..) take on the world. Sarcastically criticising the world. In a similar vein he relates how people deal with the world in the ending. This sarcastic or jokey attitude is also reflected in the style of singing. |

to me it's about spiritual enlightenment. life as a waterfall. The holistic nature of the world. The oneness. Swimming thru the void we hear the word. the first part speaking of meditation. "hearing the word" refers to what a lot of religions consider divine revelation. Thru meditation you hear an 'audible' source, which is the word which guides you to enlightenment. (pretty eastern) We lose ourselves but we find it all? we lose our egocentric selfish nature, and unable to put what was gained it into words, 'we find it all' is almost asked as a question. we are the ones.. shows egocentric and prideful nature of 'normal' people. Aerials could be OBE(out of body experiences) if considered at face value, or just the accent to enlightenment, The loss of the closed mind and 'eternal prize'. |

I think it's deeper than just 'religious faith'. Sure they use the word faith but the 'spirit moves thru all things' is more in line with say eastern ideas and some teachings of Jesus. As science approaches the quantum level, the observer becomes an integral part of the system, and our cartesian split paradigm can no longer be held true. The discoveries of quantum physics alludes to things such as a holistic universe and parellel mystical experience, which is the spirit or faith of man. Try not to get caught up in the dogma of religion and look at it's core. Also, read The Tao of Physics, Ken Wilber or perhaps even The Holographic Universe. ;) Science and Religion are starting to vibe together more and more, as people throw out their close minded assumptions. (ex: fundamentalists and athiests) |

My friend and I have discussed this song, and have come up with three opinions. This is only what we got from it so don't take it as the gospel truth. 1) The song is taken literally and is about a man coping with his desires and control issues. Where 'closer to god' makes him more in power, as he would imagine god. 2) The song is using sexual 'abuse' as an alagory to organized religion. Being abused and programmed by the church, which tells him not to use reason, but faith. In this case, the I is the church. This might not go along with the rest of the album, and is also questionable. Our most recent interpretation is... 3) Moral and philosophical ideals being undermined by lust and animal instincts. He is fed up with living in his head and gives up the problems associated with it (isolation, absence of faith, etc) to just revel in the physical. Also, shows that no matter how philisophical or idealistic you feel you are, you still get the urge to just fuck someone like an animal. Again, these are just some ways in which we've interpretted it. |
