great song, i believe it was one of the first written by Cornell that struck up the idea for Temple of The Dog. This project band is amazing, and its indescribable how appreciative i am that these guys grief and rememberance of a friend was something they chose to express through music. A song can mean so much more when you know its origin is in pain that every common person experiences. |

i agree with sean about losing your way in religion, do you think it might have something to do with dave being agnostic? even though he didnt write it maybe he chose it for some of those reasons, because a lot of daves songs can relate to his being agnostic |

I agree with DeathRockBoy, Id say this song is billy talking to himself, telling himself hes gotten nowhere. He's telling himself "youre nowhere" or you are nothing. |

| Pearl Jam – Whipping Lyrics

maybe about become more famous as a band? the first verse is stating how "tough" they are, a high tolerance level. and then second verse is about how they dont want to trust all the people who just want to be a part of it for the money or fame. They dont want to change who they are as a band but its already begun from the pressure and fame. the last verse is questioning what is being asked of the band by the music industry and maybe producers or something. They're whipping is pretty obvious that the band feels like they are being punished by all the pressure and pushing (im being shoved). That might not be very right but its my interpretation |

I've always pictured her "satellite chair" as a certain chair the girl sits in to create (painting or such) and it gives her a temporary escape from reality. The ability she has found to tap into her talent is something beautiful about her, something other people envy (something we all dream about). |

| Train – Eggplant Lyrics

I think it has something to do with the speaker wanting to be a 'king' for the person being spoken to. 'Eggplant and Cavoar for you' gives me the generalization that wealthy people eat caviar or sophisticated people, so maybe hes saying if I were king (or if i was in a powerful or noble position) i would give you things you dont have (eggplant and caviar) to win you over. Like when it says 'Apple pie or Apple seed All the mouths that I must feed' hes saying do you want the best of me or the remains? because he has to feed others too. and cold sheets or tumble weed reminds me of lonlieness and he says he needs someone. ummm Who knows? im a nut case and that made no sense haha |

I have a face I cannot show
"I make the rules up as I go
It's try and love me if you can
Are you man enough to be my man? "
that line is so incredibly written for me. I think its about someone who has baggage about themself, and self esteem problems. Shes asking him to put up with all her moods, and even though youre supposed to love yourself before you can love anyone else, she needs him to love her so she can love herself. Did that make sense? sounded better in my head... |

Normally I would comment about how amazing this song is and how i get chills when i hear it blah blah. But I'd just like to say I crowded surfed at the clevland concert to this song, and even though its not a crowd surfing sort of song, I was awesome. This song is incredible. |

I'm going to add my input on the "temporaryism has been the black plague and the jesus of our age" line. I think what he's saying is that a lot of trends (music or not) are somewhat a flash in the pan these days and it destorys so many bands or trends or whatever you'd like to think of like the black plague destroyed and wiped out europe. But at the same time most of the trends that are wiped out were never worth time anyway, so the temporaryism is comparable to jesus, a savior. Sorry if that dosent make any sense... |

This song is so beautiful. The way I interpret it is that he has been arrested (or what not), but he won't fight it because he believes he still has his freedom, his ability to dream. And the chorus is telling his "dear" not to be afraid because he will always watch over her. I don't understand the first verse though... go figure |

This song tends to fit atleast one of everyone's situations. One of those "just-for-fun" flings that accidentally turns into something that means a lot to both of the people involved, but it just hasn't been admitted yet. I'm in one of those right now, it started out to be a fun fling, but you realize there's a lot more there than you ever expected. "and though I've been warned to live day by day there's something taking over, " a great line to describe what ends up happening. |

| John Mayer – Not Myself Lyrics

I think the girl might already know him, because he asks "would you want me when I'm not myself." So I always assumed that she knew him, he was simply asking if she loved him enough to go through the tough times with him, wait it out while hes "someone else" struggling with his inner battles. And once he has fought his fight and gained his footing again, he'll come around again for her, because even though he was acting different his love for her never changed, and she is his "saving grace," she motivated him and the thought of her got him through it. Anyway, that's what I got out of it the first time I listened. |

| John Mayer – Why Georgia Lyrics

"it might be a quarter life crisis, or just the stirring in my soul."
I saw a lot of comments on the first half of that lyric, but how can you ignore the second?? Maybe it's just me but there have been countless times when the stirring in my soul that I can't quite pinpoint is all over the map, without direction or a course. And I agree with john, ask yourself if you're living it right everday, that's a question that needs answered by a lot of people today.
I also LOVE
"so what so I’ve got a smile on
It’s hiding the quiet superstitions in my head "
Because I go through lots of smiles that aren't put on just to smile. It's easier some times to keep or "hide" those quiet superstitions. |

I agree that jack sounds nothing like pete yorn, but I also agree they attract the same fans, I know a lot of people who are all in the same circle of artists. John mayer, dmb, jack johnson, dispatch, guster, ect. Anyway, I think no matter how much you can argue a song's meaning the reason people create music is to express themselves. Every person will have a different connotation to every song because each song affects people in different ways and relates to them differently. It's all about being open minded and building on your meaning of the song with enlightment from other people's views. sorry, just my take on music. |

This is the song for me, the song that gives me chills the whole way through. I have such a deep appreciation for the way some people can create these incredible pictures just with words and six strings. This is my summer goal, to be able to play it through and through. It's also so amazing to me that someone can play such an intricate guitar part and sing at the same time so harmoniously. |

from reading these comments I've drawn the conclusion... everyone can relate to "...one more thing, why is it my fault?..." And of course, so can I. I write on occasion and I've been told i'm good but the honestly in some of his songs amaze me. And of course, I love the salt and pepper shakers bit, you get a mental picture of two people experiencing an awkward silence, and trying to pass the moment by fidgeting.... Great song, Great artist... I'm green with envy |

Boyd's lyrics are phenominally unique in my opinion. His individuality and personal way of thinking shines through in all his songs. Azwethinkweiz took the thoughts from my head when describing this song and what it means. The first few lines of this song are probably my favorite Incubus lyrics, so powerful and true. |

wow, I thought dave was the originator of that countdown too but wherever it comes from, I think it's amazing. It's so refreshing to have someone who creates actual poetry for lyrics instead of singing conversational sentences like punk bands or rappers. |
