I think this song is about a girl that gets beaten by her boyfriend/husband. (wake up...grab a brush and put on a little make-up...hide the scars to fade away the shake-up...) She is too scared to leave him (why'd you leave the keys upon the table...basically meaning she can escape.) As most people that are victims of domestic violence, she denies it...(there you go create another fable.) The repeating of the phrase "you wanted to" I think means she blames herself for the abuse, and doesn't know how to escape. (When angels deserve to die) I think this means how she is innocent like an angel, not necessarily she "deserves" to die, but there is no other escape. At the end, "father into your hands I commend my spirit...father into your hands...why have you forsaken me? forsaken me in you eyes, thoughts, heart) She must feel alone...not even God SEES what is happening to her (protects her), THINKS about her, and ultimately LOVES her. Her only escape his her "self-righteous suicide," almost as if she's better off dead. Although I find this song extremely depressing, I think it was greatly written and performed...Serj definately has a way with words, and I love this band!!! I'm upset they didn't come around my area with MINDLESS SELF INDULGENCE (check this band out...they are fucking crazy), but I forgive them. |
