Opeth – Master's Apprentices Lyrics 20 years ago
The person turns their back on faith. At the end of his life he is "put to the test/ once i'm below there's no turning back/ plunging into the deepest void". Guess who is the master?

Opeth – The Amen Corner Lyrics 20 years ago
In Epilogue we discover that the word(s) he despises is "farewell" which helps argue the case that this second man is consoling the widow rather than shagging her.

In Flames – Zombie, Inc. Lyrics 23 years ago
This song is about the fall of religion in general. I cannot go through line by line to prove this because much of the song is unexplainable by me. It is safe to assume that the religion in question is Chrisitanity because of a number of reasons:
1) Europe is mainly Christian oriented, and is most likely the religion the band has been exposed to the most.
2) The nameless single god passes judgement, a strong case for either Christianity, Judaism or Muslim... although all three religions believe in the exact same god.
3) "Womb," although not referring to Mary, is generally associated with Mary, (mother of Jesus).

In Flames – Black & White Lyrics 23 years ago
I never once even thought that this song was racist. The reason I never thought this was because In Flames has never written a racial song. The album is titled, "Reroute To Remain" for a reason... they're about uniting the world rather than tearing it apart. Most of their songs are about bettering society, not dividing it.
Nevertheless, the above statements are plausable interpretations of the song, more valid than my own interpretation, but I just don't feel they are true to the artist's intentions.
I suggest that the song is about the opposite opinions of two people in a bad relationship... although like I just said, the previous interpretations are stronger than mine.

Bah, look at all those spelling mistakes... I feel even worse now than I did when I made all that nonsense up.

In Flames – Lord Hypnos Lyrics 23 years ago
This song is difficult to comprehend because of it's vagueness. I assume that's why no one has bothered to decifer it yet.
Lord Hynpos is the Greek god of sleep.
The speaker seems to find it difficult to fall into the deep type of dreams, (Steep the spiral to your far abode / in the wake of slumber, on visions I rode) the kind of dreams a god would inspire you could say. I suppose these are the kinds of dreams where you see everything imaginable... (fell like history through the chasm of ages / into the charged, forbidden zones) although I do not understand "charged" means.
The speaker says he has searched these millions of zones yet cannot find his true self. I make a generalization here that no one is really who they want to be. However, everyone can dream of who they want to be. The speaker might be searching for who he wants to be but he cannot find something so deep or 'profound' inside of his mind.
I believe the 'grandoise halls' are the same 'forbidden zones' which are the memories in his mind of which he dreams about. I call them memories because each time they are mentioned in the song they also mention the past. 'Tune the strings... / ... frozen music of gods' does not seem to make any sense so I've disregarded it right now.
'Hypnagonia' does not exist in the real world, meaning the band must have created her character. I understand her to be Hypnos' wife. although that is just my understanding, which isn't going very far. It is difficult to understand what 'horizons' means in this context. It has to be a boundry of some sort, most likely of knowledge or experience. This doesn't make sense though when followed by, "play with the desires I've surpressed / as I strike towards the Pantheon / and what therein is held". The Pantheon would be a temple devoted Hypnos and Hypnagonia among other gods.
All in all, this song makes very little sense to me, and I probably make even less sense to you. If this song were about death and how "your life flashes before your eyes", then the Pantheon could be considered an afterworld and yearning could be a desire which was regretibly surpressed. I don't know, I just got my ass kicked by a poem.

In Flames – Reroute To Remain Lyrics 23 years ago
You are correct about the stubborness and of the old ways. However, they want to unify societies, destroy the barries that separate us. Reroute to remain... find a path away from our current situations (war and terrorism and such) to continue living.

In Flames – December Flower Lyrics 23 years ago
Jesus Murphy you have it Biplos!
The floweryard of white and grey is most likely refering to a graveyard. I still don't understand what "ancient pearls of sleep and death / the voice of december losing its breath" means.
They are associating December, or basically winter with death; hence, "December Flower."
Later he says, "green is the colour of my death," meaning that once he's decomposed, as stated above, he will now be the soil which feed the plants. Just as the roots feed us, we soon feed the roots. I bet you never realized how old the particles that make up your body really are.
Anywho, I was at the same concert I believe, it was on the 4th of September.

Rhapsody of Fire – Emerald Sword Lyrics 23 years ago
Funny you should ask. All of their songs are based on these stories about "The Enchanted Lands" that I believe they made up. I haven't bothered to read them because in my opinion the person who wrote them isn't exactly a very good writter. I guess I shouldn't make too much fun of them, they are Swedish after all. Meh, this link - http://www.mightyrhapsody.com/index2.htm - will take you to the site that has them under "Sagas and Dreamland." I think I shall go read them now.

In Flames – Dead Eternity Lyrics 23 years ago
This song may not be so godmade as I once thought. I used to believe it was just one of those "fun" songs about something evil which is meant to be taken as a joke. However, having bothered to read the lyrics I can see that it is not a "fun" song.

The speaker claims to be Existance, and it is uncertain if Existance is actually a being or just a state. I will refer to Existance as He to make it easier to understand.
When Existance begins with, "You'll never be born again..." He could be talking about either human life after death, or which I believe is more accurate, human life once you are born. Existance is refering to all humans when He addresses "you". When you are born, you have just entered through the 'gates' of his world. In the beginning we are young, and fear nothing. But as we grow and time marches on, our lives become more difficult, or as some people mentioned above, Hell. In Flames views the quality of human life subsistent, or shitty. Lumping all of human life together would mean we are talking about our society. We preform laborious jobs our entire lives to hold our place in society. Over time we would feel the weight of time on our shoulders as we worked our lives away... just ask any factory worker.

So depression clouds your soul as time slowy hacks away your life. Now here is a very difficult concept to understand. When time takes your life, you die! Existance will take your soul and put you in an afterlife world where you can think about whatever you did during your life for the rest of eterinty. This afterworld seems to be bleak, perhaps they are making fun of Heaven, which would mean that the entire song is making fun of religion and Existance is God. If not then it is their own interpretation of what is to come after human death.
Either way, NOTHING CAN HELP YOU NOW!

In Flames – Dawn Of A New Day Lyrics 23 years ago
Do not slander the "soft shit," for it is called evolution. If musicians never gained skill and composed the same shit year after year then they would be called AC/DC.
If you understood half of what their lyrics were about you'd know that they are meaning to become better people and trying to push for a better society. So then why cannot they change by adding melody to their vocals? What did you enjoy most about In Flames before, the melodic riffs or the poetry screamed? Or perhaps it was the combination of both which made them unique.
It doesn't even matter, cause at every moment everything is changing in every way, and if you cannot see and accept that then you're in for a life of misery. Do you often wonder why your girlfriend turned into a bitch? Do you suppose she wonders why you became an ass? And how about that new spice on the Wendy's chickenburger... what the fuck were they thinking?

Iron Maiden – Run To The Hills Lyrics 23 years ago
Firstly, America did not exist in those days, it was the Europeans, namely England and France who came to North America and ran down the Natives.

I find it difficult to decide whether Maiden is sympathetic towards the Natives, as expressed in the beginning of the song, or if they are proud of what has happened throughout the rest of the song.

In Flames – Jester Script Transfigured Lyrics 23 years ago
I would have to agree with you, this is also my favorite In Flames song.
I'll make a stab at the meaning of this song from what it actually says.
First verse speaks of the new age of creating cyborgs. Lacking human qualities, they are perfect creations. This extends into the chorus about the ceremonial perfection nonsense.
The second verse describes a horrible world where the ugly and narrow minded, perhaps the cyborgs themselves destroying all memory (RAM) of human kind.
The following bridge puzzles the hell out of me. Chaos should be unsequenced. Installing things such as machines? Cyborgs? Awaiting the restortion of chaos probably refers to the Big Bang theory that before the universe was created there was nothing but chaos, then all of a sudden BANG! I guess they are waiting for the end of the world. Don't worry about this section... I'm not.
Now for the meaning of all this nonsense. Sounds to me like they are against technology, as is the case with many of their other songs. Our society has become so automated that eventually we won't have a reason to live and will be 'formated' from all memory. We've only seen the beginning. Perhaps they are talking about all those movies we've come to know and love such as Terminator... we've all seen Terminator haven't we? I'm not sure what core they're talking about, nor what slowly moving bird of prey they speak of. But the last line I enjoy the most. Apparently technology will be about the destruction of the earth, something far far far worse than hell.
I will make the very notion of Hell seem celestrial in comparison.

In Flames – December Flower Lyrics 23 years ago
I analyized this song a few years back in my grade 11 english class. Basically everything I concluded has already been stated. Circle of life is seen through the roots, trees and mantle. The song focuses more on death however, which is apparent in the title.
One section that just baffles me is, "White as the down of flaking snow, the heroic emblems of life." If I ever figure out what that means then my life will be complete.
The concept that you and the earth are made up of the same substance is what I enjoy most... aside from the guitar solo which I find pleasing as well.

In Flames – Ordinary Story Lyrics 23 years ago
I do not believe that the lyrics refer to religion. The plain story is that people no longer live respectable and honorable lives. They do whatever they need to do to succeed, which forces everyone else to do the same (this is what they are upset about). Hence morals deplete and the present time becomes shallow and empty with no meaningful explaination as to why.
