Now many of you may call me insane but i think this song has a deeper, darker meaning than what most of you have thus far been able to articulate. To me the song appears to be about the effect of human frailty on a persons view of themselves, at birth we are new to the world, free of any outside influence, from that moment onwards our lives, our personalities are moulded and dictated by the actions of those who surround us, it is from them we learn everything from morals and values through to speech patterns and getures. When Matt sings "break me in, teach us to cheat and to lie, cover up what shouldn't be shared?" he is documenting the unfortunate effects that experience can have on the human soul, the morally clean slate gifted at child birth, is slowly and surely disolved as one becomes consumed by the fatal instincts of modern life, lie, cheat steel, emotionless sex( what shouldnt be shared) The chorus is Matts appeal to the creator, whoever that may be according to his personal beliefs, he is wishing to hold his stage, to be able to manipulate the hands of time, so that his soul is cleansed, cast back to the pure state of infancy. The last verse is an emotional appeal for all the madness in the world to stop, a plea to whomever or whatever is responsible for his decaying moral and physical identity, as matt sings wash me away clean your body of me erase all the memories they will only bring us pain and i've seen, all i'll ever need he is pleading that the faults that he has learned through life in this modern world be stricken away, and that the moral decline our society experiences is having nothing but a negative effect on the mental well being of the planets occupants, that is we the people of earth. In many ways Citizen Erased reminds me of the poetry of the great William Blake, in particular his Songs of Innocence and Songs of Experience collections, in which Blake studies the effects of the outside world on the minds of London's inhabitants, taking in the optimistic, unlearned view of Innocence felt at childhood, and contrasting it with the stagnant, depressing view of one whom has learned from the experiences of the world. Whether or not Bellamy is a fan of Blake's works i am unaware, but the connection is almost uncanny. The awesome power of the lyrics are only further entrenched into the listeners pysche through the faultless mixture of technical prowess and emotional cleansing that make up the songs structure. The music is nothing short of majestic, the soundscapes so diverse it transcends definition. Citizen Erased is Matt Bellamy's depiction of the effects of the state of inocence and experience on the human soul, much like other visonary artisits before him, particularly William Blake, he has chosen unparralled power in his expression, only Matt's guitar,falsetto vocals and intricate piano, when coupled with the mystical abilities of the rythm section, screams a hell of a lot louder than poetry and etchings ever did. Obviously You Are An Australian whoever made the FAO comment. Simple Plan are awesome as well, i love it when the other australia, canada produces good musicians and stuff, it is awesome becoz i knd of feel like canadians would i reckons sometimes, kind of like america thinks they are like god, and we are like jesus and moses or whatever, anyway enough of that great sng and it really sums up my life a lot round these parts of Frankston,Victoria Australia. This Song is quite clearly about trying to show people, yonug people that suicide is not the answer, and that their areother epople who will have the same problems as you, and that their are people out their that care, it reminds me of a number of people i know who have committed or attemtped to commit suicide, if they could just have known this have heard this song, if they hadjust been able to open their ears then maybe just maybe they would be here today, people have been singing about this sort of stuff for a long time, but good charlotte do this perfectly their vocies are perfect and suit the emotion behind the song, hopefully this song can be used in the fight against the ever rising youth suicide rate, i know their is a organisation in australia that might have a look at using it for those purposes, they are called Here For Life and they are youth suicide prevention team. This song should be released as a single as i think it would do well in Australia and the Usa, who afterall have the two highest youth suicide rates in the civilised world. Anyway brilliant song and great meaning caps off a brilliant album. This prooves to you that they arent the people they sing aout in Lifstyles of the rich and the famous, and that is on hell of a relief, never loose reality gc, as long as you do that you will prosper, and survive, just like bad religion, pennywsie and other bands like that. |

I don't have a missing father, i am not a neglected child, however i found this song really moving and inspirational for a different reason. My brother is a heroin addict and since his addiction his personality and his thoughts have effectively died, and this song reminds me of the things i used to think of him, i barely ever see him and when i do it is like not seeing him at all, the way he acts has changed, the way he thinks is twisted and the amount of drugs he takes will eventually kill him, i have lost him clinically 3 times before and they brought him back to life, and when i put this cd in three songs grabbed dme in the heart and brought tears to my eyes and this was the one that craked me up. The line "I remeber the days you were a hero in my eyes, but those are just a long lost memory of mine" explains exactly the way i feel about my borther, he was my hero, and now when you look into his eyes you see nothing, i dont know if i am weird coz i can see this connection betweeen the two things, but this is in fact what the song means to me, i mean obviously it is about their feelings towards their father but it kind of fits in, with the brothe thing i was talking about as well. Little Girl-My Sister Person Singing-Me Father-My Brother Forgiveness- For stealing all our stuff and draggin us through bullshit for 6 years. making me see things i wouldnt normally have sseen at just 16 years of age. Great Song, Fantastic Album, Awesome Lyrics, Awesome Band TO anyone who knocks them get f'd because afterall even bad religions sorrow and punk rock song, and rancid's ruby soho got played on mtv once upon a time, and they are two of the punkiest bands on the planet. |

Pennywise are awesome as are their lyrics and this song is awesome too, however not nessecarily their most lyrically ingenius effort, as a drummer if ound the drumming to be right on the spot, Byron MCMackin does a wonderful job with this track.
