i did an interview with quinn and here is what he said about "on my own"
18. Can you explain: “Noise and Kisses”, “Blue and Yellow”, “Buried Myself Alive”, and “On My Own”; or why you decided to write them.
“On My Own” is purely about searching for meaning in your life. I spent a whole summer sleeping on patches of grass and living out of my backpack with my best friend. There is this place called squaw peak above our town on the mountains where we would go and just listen to music and talk and think about our lives. That song is about those times. Times when I fucking hated everything and wanted to disappear, times when I didn’t know where my life was going and yeah just shit like that. I think anyone can relate to that in some way.

11. What is your favorite song on the album and why?
“Blue and Yellow”. It’s about being close to someone but being totally different people on the inside. Its kind of a troublesome thing trying to share ideas and passions in that sense. I really relate to that song with my life. Sometimes I feel like I'm lost as a person, or that I want to disappear. I really wish sometimes I could find a friend that was on the same level as me and shared the same ambitions. The song really embraces finding meaning in your life and that’s something I am still trying to do.

anyways Xbright_eyesX ... you know of them thru vroom? thats cool... but anyhoo... i have been to the zine or whatever you write for. and ive read this lil review plenty of times b4. and i mean i have my own magazine... and ppl like you... ppl who actually work with musicians and in the "music business" should know more then anyone else that it is important to respect the music other people like, whether you like it or not. there is no need to make fun of fans just because they like a certain band. i hate pop music but i dont go around making fun of the bands and all their fans... but w/e do what you please. |

Xbright_eyesX- singer/bassist? you mean singer/guitarist... and because of the way he dresses has nothing to do with the music he makes. he happens to like punk music... never once did they say that THEY were a PUNK BAND. they arent. i have talked to them about that countless times. and about how people who think they know what "punk" is are always dissing them... and the answer from them is always the same. they say people can classify them anyway they want to because they never once said they were a punk band. people try to say they are wannabe punks just because of the way benji dresses... but in reality that has no effect on the music that they make. and they never said they were "emo" either. so it seems to me that you are the only one here trying to group them into certain genres of music... when the band themselves doesn't do that.

i never interpreted it that way, but its interesting how u see it that way. i think everyone here is right. because this song is written in a way that you can interpret it in so many different ways that whose to say what he really means but daniel himself. god i would kill to get an interview with him. he is so incredible... just to think he was writting like this at 15. |

earthertom... i like the way u see this song i agree with what u said. i mean cuz brandons ex girlfriend cheated on him so they broke up... so it would be one of those situations where he still has strong feelings for her but he knows he cant get back with her after what she did... so seeing her with another guy would make him feel bad and what not... |

i think i agree with johnsybabe on what that lyric means. i also have another meaning of the lyric in my head but i cant seem to get it down into writing. maybe when i think of how to write it i will post it... i think that thats a great part of the song thou because it makes us all think about it like we are. this song is just plain amazing i love the first verse...

i agree with pumpkingurl... in my opinion.. i think that he left her for someone else and wants her back, and he is now looking back and seeing the mistake he made leaving in the first place. and when he says "could we please go back to start? forgive my indecision" he is saying that he wants to start over so he doesn't make the same mistakes again... ehh i dunno it all makes sense in my head lol just hard to put into words! |
