Crash Test Dummies – Superman's Song Lyrics 24 years ago
I love this song. I think it is a perfect demonstration of how most of the time life is hard and it doesn't seem fair, and it depends on your strength of character how you will handle it. This song shows Superman's strength, not only as a superhero, but also as a decent person. The Tarzan reference shows how easy it would have been to just quit being Superman, and the reference to the "king of the jungle" who can't even talk brings to light the better person--not the one who is powerful but does nothing with that power, but the one who has lost everything but his power, which he uses for good. It makes you think--if I had the power to do anything I wanted, for good or for bad, how would I use that power? Superman had lost everything and he wasn't even from Earth, so it's not like he owed the planet anything. He just saw a need that he knew only he could satisfy, so he did it. I agree with the last line of the chorus. More and more, as I watch our world I despair the world will never see another man like him.
