I totally relate to this song. My boyfriend and I broke up (he actually broke up with me, but I feel confident that if I tried, I could have him back if I wanted it), and while I miss him whole-heartedly, I know that it would only end up like this again and again. The part of the song that speaks to me the most is "And it hurts to want everything and nothing at the same time I want what's yours and I want what's mine I want you But I'm not giving in this time". I want him back, and yet I don't. I'm trying to be grown up and do what's for the best and this song represents what's going on in my life so well. |

i'm also from the Dalls area, and i think it's cool that we've finally got a band that can hang for a while. don't get me wrong, the toadies were from closer to where i live than BFS, and i love them too, but they just didn't have what these guys do. they're awesome and i'm so glad to see a nct band make it big... now if only more people thought of them with as high respect and love as i do... |

madson, you always say what i'm thinking. surprisingly though, i don't really have a strong opinion on what the meaning of this song is. i usually do... just ask me and i'll tell ya. but, i'm also the first one to tell you that the song has different meanings for different people depending on their past, emotions, whatever. i can see where everybody got their own opinions when i listen to the song and read the words. of course, i also kind of want to go with the relationship idea, but it has so many meanings just waiting to be discovered and brought to the light. that's what's cool about maynard... that's why we love him. even if he doesn't mean to put something there, he leaves it open so that someone can identify with his songs, and that's awesome. so everyone just keep thinking about it and apply this song to your life however you can! |

OK! let's get one thing straight right now. different people interpret the same thing different ways. i don't know how many times i've said it. maynard meant one thing when he wrote that, but that doesn't mean that everyone else in the world has gone through this experience and can relate to it: that's why he's vague about his meaning. that way, everyone can think of something that this song reminds them of. it could mean HIV, it could mean two lovers and one of them having AIDS, it could mean letting yourself become vulnerable again so that you can love. it can mean a million and two different things to a million and two different people. DOES ANYONE GET IT YET? stop putting eachother's opinions down and insulting one another. this is a place where you put your idea out in the open and leave it there for other people to read and consider. stop tearing eachother to shreds! |

tfaith, the band is going to change... that's a given. if they didn't they would simply be producing music like robots.. without feeling or intensity, instead of making it. i don't always like the new stuff, but the band still has their heart in it. as for this song, i think that it's actually about change, how one thing happens and it affects you to make you into someone who you weren't before. |

i love how this song is about how upset he is that he can't have an active role in his son's life, but here's a new take on it for ya: the point of view of a child whose father chooses not to be an active part in their life. maybe it's just because that's the story of my life, but that's what i thought of the very first time i heard this song. then i saw the video and understood that it was reversed. but it works either way. |

i checked this song to make sure that someone had said what madson said. that is what maynard meant when he wrote this song; HOWEVER artists write their songs so that their fans can relate to them. maynard didn't come right out and say what he was writing about so that everyone could relate and say "this reminds me of..." or "when i hear this song, i think of..." maynard had one thing that he wrote this song about, but it means many things to many people. so, take this song as you will, just realize that this is an awesome song. |

since allergic was talking about the overusage of the word "love," i won't say that i love this song... i adore it. it's very honest and i think we've all been there at least once. we think we're in love, only to realize that it was simply an infatuation. the feeling is gone, and we partially want it back, but then we remember the hurt and pain that comes with it. daniel is a genius.

i'm not really sure what kurt meant by it... no one really is. he could have meant a million different things, which is the great thing about his songs. he wrote in ways that didn't pinpoint one exact meaning so that everyone could relate to his words. it's a beautiful song, and he was taken from us all too soon. |
