Third Day – Gomer's Theme Lyrics

This song is about a story in the Old Testament book of Hosea. Gomer was Hosea's wife. She had been a prostitute and God told Hosea to go take Gomer as his wife, so Hosea was obedient and did that. After a while, Gomer left him and went back to being a prostitute. God told Hosea to go get his wife and tell her that she was to live with him. He went and bought her and she came to live with him then. I think this is a very good picture of what Jesus did for us. Our sin is just as ugly and disgusting as that of this prostitute when compared with God's righteousness. nevertheless, God sent Jesus to save us. And we killed Him. Yet he continues to love us, even when we turn away from him and go right back to committing the very sins that He died for. He still loves us anyway and comes back for us and tells us that we aren't to sin anymore, but are to follow Him.

This is one of my favorite songs. I just love the picture that Mac Powell paints here of the promises we make to people we love. How we say we'll do anything for them and that we never do those things we promise we'll do. Then the song shows how Jesus did those things, how he gave everything. He payed the highest price and gave his life for us because He loves us :)

This is indeed an expression of how Jason feels about his heavenly Father and the love that He has shown him. Jason seems to just be desperate for God, he longs for Him. God leads him, gives him peace, hope, is trustworthy, the life(Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me), strength, purpose...just everything to him. God keeps him safe, he hold's Jason's breath and heart in his hand. Jason knows this and wants to have an even deeper relationship with God. In the thank yous on the last page of the cd jacket the band says that "all of this came from God" and that they are offering praise back to Him. What an awesome song to end the cd!

I think this song demonstrates how much Jason longs for God. He depends on God's grace(falling back to the arms of grace), wants to be in God's presence(sit outside heaven's door) even if God doesn't have a word for him right now, he just wants to be as close to God's presence as he can be. He hinges on every word that God has for him.
