its funny because i dont think this song has any DIRECT reference to drugs at all, but i think that there is more to your interpretation that the fact taht you do drugs. i dont know if i can explain it but somethign robert is searching for is like what drugs help us search for or something i don't know. |

i think conor oberst is a whiny baby and needs to freaking snap out of his depression. i think he LIKES to stew in his sadness, he said it himself "hurt me now" so i don't pity him at all. also i think you all are being totally naive, the line "i want a boy who's so drunk..." means what it says, he WANTS a boy, hes bisexual. whatever i don't care, hes a whiny bisexual, masochistic, guy, in other words he's an emo kid. |

HAHAHHA! everybody, check out my name, I just discovered bright eyes, but have been logged into this name forever, I choose it because it was beautifully melancholic sounding. AND now I've discovered bright eyes. Holy shit, its not good because i gravitate towards depressing stuff and he looked stupid at first but i heard this song once and i played it over and over again until 2 in the morning. This is bad, I have found my heroin, my drug. |

have you seen the video??? SOOOO freaky! Its like really fantastic imagery there are these guys in this chinese dragon costume dancing around all scarily and is set inside a big french type arboretum, and there are big huge tropical plants everywhere, and the entire keyboard of the piano keeps bouncing up and down like the piano is made of play-doh or somethign, and even the guitarist' guitar is bouncing up and down disturbingly. it is a fuckin trip. |

its crazy in the video, all the band members are trapped inside this closet and the closet falls off a cliff. Now theyre in the water and the closet is on its side and is starting to fill up with water. They are having trouble singing because water keeps covering their heads and stuff and it really is extremely claustrophobic. My guess is really that he is talking about feeling WAAAAY to close to someone else probably emotionally and just feeling trapped in or claustrophobic. |

hey everyone come on, orange had a good point, this really isn't traditional punk lets be honest here. of course not. but i think the point is that punk is all about breaking peoples expectations and stereotypes and what better way to be punk that to break the stereotype of what punk should be? by the way orange you are a total idiot if you don't like propagandhi, and probably a danger to the human race. |

right rainydayboy, the girl is his "remedy" for his low selfesteem or whatever other issues. God i just listen to this album over and over. its ironic because she says the album has a lot to do with ADDICTION....well, i think I'm ADDICTED to her album. seriously, no joke people, i really am. i am also quite depressed and often hate myself. this album soothes me and makes a lot of sense. i wonder though if this album makes me feel worse about myself or better? I'm really not sure actually....i think I would ask Amy what her intentions were if i got the chance. |

exactly sincerlyme exactyl I ahve been trying to figure out what bothered me about this song and you perfectly put it into words. hippies and punk aren't that different, both believe in seriously questioning authority, both do drugs, both are dirty(true punks are at least), both are often poor, both are rebellios, and actually these days hippies too are often "middle class". and also i am beginning to think that fat mike just likes to make fun of people if its funny, hes kind of a jerk like that, but still funny. but personally i think he should lay off the hippies. |

| NOFX – You Drink, You Drive, You Spill Lyrics
| 23 years ago
|
geniuses. he is so goddamn funny. i love the sick humor. although.....dude, this song is actually NOT so true. that to me is why its so funny, because its so wrong. if i must get inot a debate I must. here it is:
when he says 35% of accidents are drunk and 65% of accidents are not this is true, but this misrepresents the facts. the facts are that there are far far afar far fewer drunk drivers than sober drivers. Thus even though there are fewer drunk accidents per total number of accidents, drunk driving is still far more dangerous, far far more dangerous. If you don't agree with my reasoning read over this email again, it will eventually make sense, if not please explain where my reaosning is flawed. Please do not go out and drink and drive because of this song though. that was not his intention, this is not a rant against the "unfair" drinking and driving laws. Those laws are there for a reason. the song itself was a joke, a sick joke yes, but thats why it was funny. |

yeah mee to megan. this song is the epitome of early ninetees punk revival(before it got turned into blink 182/good charlotte trash). this song is the epitome of the rediscovery of punk to me. I can just picture him with his second hand checkered pants with lint in his pockets and retro shirt or something, just livin off money from gigs making jokes about sick stuff. yeah, thats what its all about, thats california punk to me. i love it. |

no no soul. I really honstly don't think he was. in a way he was, becuase its funny, but i think its also what he believes. I honestly think that he enjoys being a (for lack of a better term) asshole to quiet nerdy type people. basically thats what punks all about anyways when you think about it....being an asshole and causing trouble(acutally that and political stuff) but its also about jsut causing trtouble for its own sake. Honestly i think though that this song deserves more credit becuase its deeper than most realize, hes almost talking about darwinist type survival of the fittest philosophy. i think thats interesting and has some truth in it. |

right sokickass its about being a hobo. also though its about sort of loafing off America. he doesn't have ideals (not freedom like america) but he does like america and its wide variety of ways to consume (freedomlike a shopping cart). so yeah its about being a bum and loafing. come to think about it now that i say this, this song kinda sucks. yeah he sings it well, but its about being a peice of shit who doesn't ant to work for a living. actually not only that but even he has admitted that he "can't sing" and really just yells his lyrics. |

and by the way deloreanrider govertnments are supposed to tax people. how else are public services paid for? all im saying is that when peoople take nofx's songs to be the be all and end all on political matters we start saying things like "all governments do is tax". its not that simple. |

exactly "all the fat cats up in washington" is just a generalization. that saying is in a way just a joke. there is some truth to it don't get me wrong. all im saying is that if i want actual poltiical insight and criticism, i don't turn to nofx. its like yes i agree our gvoernment has its flaws, but its not like repeating old cliches' like "fat cats" really gets us anywhere towards understanding why its corrupt or how to change it. hes no political scientis. thats all im sayhing. still a great song though in its own right. |

I think this song is actually pretty simple. its profound and can apply to people in many different ways but i think the basic message is pretty simple: if you are uhappy with your life, simply ruin it. my opinion is that the line of "eat our young" is a reference to the god Saturn of Greek mythology who ate his children because he was afraid they would get too powerful and overthrow him. Later his son Zeus survived and killed him or something. I think hes just kind of using it to symbolize fucked up families in general and deep family resentment and pain and other not so fun stuff. |

damn drkshadow03 I'm always replying to the things you say bout nofx. Truthfully I wish this song was about what you are saying it is about. Unfortunately I think fat mike is much more pro-u.s.a. than you think. I think this song is about him just thinking that the u.s. is fine for once and and now he is a punk rocker and has nothing to complain about. So he is planning on moving to pakistan or mongolia so he can get himself some angst and have something to complain about. What do ya think? |
