If you lived by the words in this song, i believe you would live a life of true happiness. It reminds me of a Charles Bukowski poem (the author Hot Water Music took their name from) Called "Roll The Dice." Search for it, read it, and you will understand what they are teaching. Life is about finding what you want to do and doing it, at all cost, at all times. Anytime I am afraid, i listen to this song and everything is put into perspective. |

You know those akward pauses when you are having a deep conversation about what a person thinks they are? I think thats what this song is about. The time when they say something deeply personal about themselfs and it's your turn to respond. I imagine that the writer has been through a little bit more than the subject, and he is waiting for them to come to the conclusion that he already knows, but then they say something that isn't really what he expected, and it makes him think twice. I dunno, no once else has had any ideas....... |

I think this song is pretty transparent, and prolly means the most to the writer. I can't really connect word-wise with this song as much as the others on the album, but it still rocks. The last line though, that makes a lot of sense.....I could prolly answer "all of the above." |

II don'tr really care if a band "sells out." I don't care if a band is on TRL, shit i don't even have cable. I don't care what teeny bopper had their t-shirt. All i care about is if the music is good or not. The new album, not good. Artists can change all they want, but i don't have to like it. I'm not saying its not as good as past al3. It is not good, at all. Although, after saying that, I went to their show a while back, and it was rocking. They played mostly old songs (mabye they know what the crowd wants to hear?) And a good time was had by all. The new ones they did play sounded alright without that damn keyboard. I think i'm gonna blame what their website said, something about "not as much alcohol fueled conflict", for this new sound. Being drunk leads to simple chords, heartfelt-but-not-so-deep lyrics, and my kinda music. "artistic evolution" is cool, but I don't have to like their evolution. And i don't. |

If the trio had broken up before this album, i would have gotten the logo tattooed on my lower left arm, but this shit is just terrible, i hope it is some bad joke gone wrong. What is that keyboard? And make up? Fuck you alk3, you wanna make it rich, and thats cool, just do it like modest mouse did, WITHOUT changeing your sound. I think this song is about how the singer told someone he loves her, and then she says no (but he should have known she would)....so he comes back to her, knowing that as soon as he sees her face he will know if he should just turn around, or try again. And if he says everything he knows, will it change her mind? or will he end up driving home screaming the words to his favorite sad song in his car. The line "we both know how the wheels will turn with something burning inside of us." i think is about how when you love someone you will start to twist things into signs that they like you. All i know is that after i tried for weeks to get the girl i ended up driving home screaming the words to this song at the top of lungs and puching the steering wheel. and i guess thats what the final line is about, when you look back later on the sadness and heartache, you kind love that sad, but relativly quickly passing shame. |

Of all the bands that have moved on, i think this is the one i miss the most. i love HWM, but i just wish chuck and chris could have kept this one going. There is really no band out there that can compare to blacktop. so good......so damn good. |

Come on now, its f-ing metal!. This song is simply saying "hey, we will kill you." thats it. it has no real deep meaning. They came up with an angry riff, and needed angry words. so james was like, "well, how about we write a song about killing people that try and stop us," and just wrote a few lines that fit. thats all. its good music, theirs not really a whole lot of meaning too it. the title says it all. if anything it's prolly about someone who tried to tell him he can't drink. THAT would piss james off. |

Hot water music IS the old voice.....i dunno if you heard "radio" and "bleeder" on that split....but that voice makes those songs 1000 times better. that's the voice that comes with years of screaming, drinking and smoking, prolly in that order. chuck's (and christ's) voices are pure emotion, and some of the best in the genre. |

I've almost convinced myself this song is about some type of drug. erowid shows some close matchs for lemon, yellow, and black as drug slang. "no aftertaste no residue chop chop you're throug" really sounds llike some drug talk. "chop chop....." then the "pick it up prick up the usual amount / no fingerprints no proper names" line that really sounds like a drug deal. mabye the song is about how drugs would be good at the moment? just a guess. |

I must say that this song is about drug addiction. Although a needle is linked closest with heroin, their are other drugs that you can inject (like speed). The whole song is a a refection on sliding into a drug addction ("what have i become") and losing everything ("empire of dirt") |
