you're my hero, yeff.
my favorite of the three xiu xiu songs i could find on kazaa (the others being poe poe and hives hives), though I don't like it as much as sad pony guerrila girl or the cover of tracy chapman's fast car. |

Damn...I was wrong. It is sad. Incredibly depressing when you really think about it. They were perfect for each other, madly in love, but that love has just faded away. Kind of makes me want to die...slowly building apathy is worse than any sort of active problem which might have pushed them apart. |

I like the lyrics that Isaac sings, especially "i don't know me & you don't know me & you don't know you, so we fit so good together cuz i knew you like i knew myself. we clung on like barnacles on a boat. even though the ship sinks, you know you can't let go." |

I think you guys have it wrong. There is no girl. Just drugs. The you is not some drug addicted girl he was in love with, but the drugs that he used himself. It's about being an addict. |

Yeah, but still kind of happy. It's not like anybody got hurt...they just kind of drifted away from each other. A slow kind of a growing apart thing.
And Elliott have the best bass lines since The Pixies. |

The last verse is amazing...such passion in the music and the vocals. God, I love Elliott. |

I love the dynamics that Elliott has. Most of their songs start off really kind of soft, and seem to stay mostly the same until you get two thirds of the way through the song, and realize it's ten times louder than it was at the beginning. But you never noticed the volume increasing at all, which is really a cool experience. |

I have no idea what this song means, but it is my favorite Elliott song. The vocals and the music contrast and still manage to go together well...very angry, I think, but still awesome. |

This song is perfect. It is the epitome of good music in the twenty-first century.
If Elliott make more songs like this and Drive On To Me and Dionysus Burning, I daresay they may be the saviours of Rock & Roll. |

Ditto to what everyone else has said.
My parents have made all my decisions for so long, and I'm sick of it. I'm trying to tell them that I don't need or want them any longer in that capacity, but they don't seem to get it. They don't understand that I'm better off without them. So I'll just leave. |

Actually, I'm pretty sure that that line means "It's wrong to say that our relationship is impossible, but saying it's possible is probably just as wrong."
Wow...this song, unfortunately, fits perfectly for me right now. This girl and I have had feelings for each other all year, but neither of us knew the other was interested until this past week. Now I'm leaving town for college this Sunday, and the only time we'll ever have together before then is tommorrow. I really really love this girl, but I don't think it would work out between us being so far apart. I mean, we'd only see each other at Winter Break and Spring Break, and then only if our breaks are at the same time. It's incredibly depressing, but this song says to move on, and, I think that that's what I have to do. Even though it hurts so much. |

I agree with getupkid21. I think that he loves this girl, and they're friends, but his other friend is going out with her, and she loves his friend more than him. But I think that the singer likes the girl more than his friend does, so it's hard for him, because he knows he's better for her, but he doesn't want to lose any of their friendships by breaking it up. |

Four Minute Mile is by far the most relevant album to my life right now. It just fits perfectly...
I think it's interesting that this song is right after Stay Gold, Ponyboy...especially since they kind of fade together on the album. It definitely seems to say that there is a deeper meaning to this one or the other, or both as a whole. |

No, some of Eudora is just old B-sides, early demos, tracks from compilations, etc. If you look it up on http://www.cdnow.com/ , the writing credtis should be listed after each song. That's just an easy way I use to find out who wrote what songs.
The Pixies are so incredibly amazing. If it weren;t for them, we would not have the style of "emo" that we know today. No Weezer, no Get Up Kids, probably no Modest Mouse, no Idlewild (they name-checked TGUK in an interview, so I'm assuming they were influenced by them), no NIRVANA ("Gouge Away" was Kurt Cobain's favorite song ever), etc. I could keep listing the great bands that we would not have today (at least not in the form we know them as) if it weren't for The Pixies, but that would require naming just about every band in existence. |

Well, I've got a bit of a different view on this song. I think that it's about loving someone (big surprise), but not being able to be with them at the moment. However, I think that the reasonn for this is that he's going off to college or war or something across the country or the world.
"How could another point of view, biased and untrue, tear me away from you" - To me, this seems like: "Why do I have to leave you to go off and fight a war?"
"Constants aren't so constant anymore" - Well, I just graduated from high school, and am going to a college on the opposite side of the country (live in Washington state, going to Johns Hopkins), and this is exactly how it feels for me right now. Nothing is the same as it was...everything is different. It's really depressing, and part of it has to do with my grandma just dying and a long lost uncle, who we thought had died of AIDS, showing up again, and the fact that I just found out that the girl I've liked all year liked me too, but now we're going off to college and may never see each other again...blah blah blah...I'm going off on my personal problems again, aren't I? Anyways, this is something like a motto for recent high school graduates, it seems.
Basically, I think he's saying that he wants this girl to keep loving him, even if they can't be together right now. |

I thik that this song is about home. California is there home...it's where they're from. Now, that could be a good thing and it could be a bad thing.
They're kind of homesick, looking forward to something familiar after being all over the country. Calfornia is the place where they can feel at home, where they belong in the end.
But there's also that sense of hating the place you grew up in. Everyone wants to escape from their hometown (or at least most of the people I know). Some people finally do and are fine. They can respond healthily to that kind of change. But other people end up right back where they started from.
Even though they may despise it, it's a part of them.
Sorry if that made absolutely no sense. I just graduated from high school and am going to college on the other side of the country, and I'm still trying to get used to the fact that I'll never see these people anymore. But I see that I'm ranting again, so I'll stop now.
P.S.: Four of my friends and I drove down to the Bay Area this past Spring Break, and this was ind of our little anthem for the trip. It's a great driving song. |
