The first time I met Songmeanings, I was at the zenith of my unabashed "Jesus Freak" stage (yes, back when the song was edgy) and the site had no moderators, journals, or alternatives to the garish orange-and-navy colour scheme. I suppose we parted when the admin was desperately fundraising, putting the siteon hold to bleed money from the users. Nothing wrong with that, mind you, but I'll admit that I simply switched to searching for lyrics on other sites. So I return, a little more thoughtful, a little less idealistic, a little more stable and a little less certain. Slower to speak, slower to believe. And yet, I treasure the words of a friend: ` "Bruce Lee used to say that, in the beginning, a punch is just a punch. Later, as the student trains, there becomes so many other things to consider; balance, the position of the elbow, the shift of weight, the angle of the fist. All of these things can be overwhelming. But, after much practice and repition, all of these things become second nature. And, in the end, a punch becomes merely a punch. "Perhaps life is no different. The faith of the child is out of ignorance and soon we realize that there is much to learn and we apply ourselves to it. But in the end, though we are striving for a state that is no different from the beginning, we will only find it when those questions have become well worn and practiced. In learning and walking the path, there are places where it is easy to envy the ease of being untrained. Don't forget that you are learning the ease of mastery with each step."
