cake - frank sinatra
by -XeoN- on June 12, 2003"we know of an ancient radiation that haunts dismembered constellations, a faintly glimmering radio station" - has to do with the waves that radio stations emit .. they do go very very far without having to pass thru junk like air and stuff in outer space .. i think the waves of the radiostation represents the dreams of people. who knows the waves actually might reach someone/something one day .. like that movie Contact.
"while frank sinatra sings stormy weather, the flies and spiders get along together, cobwebs fall on an old skipping record." - how songs have emotions comming from the singer and the writers of them, in these lines, how 2 enemys get together and put aside differences for awhile, the cobwebs falling on the old skipping record to me symbolizes time and repeating itself.
"beyond the suns that guard this roof, beyond your flowers of flaming truths, beyond your latest ad campaigns" - hes talking about something that goes past everything and always gets through to someone/something, best thing that i feel from it .. only other thing that comes to mind would be that its going past all the little things in life that people dont seem to notice .. you choose.
"an old man sits collecting stamps in a room all filled with chinese lamps. he saves what others throw away. he says that he'll be rich some day." - the old man sits and watches time pass him always looking toward the past and not the future like beezlebug said, but the second part about him getting rich is his dream and he has nothing else to look foward to in life, thats why he collects the stuff people throw away and strives in his own way to complete himself.
this song to me is very sad infact .. if i could sum it up in one sentence, i would say that this song is about dreams, what matters to you is your own, and another person might see your dreams in a very different perspective, good or bad. i love the song and i love the way the whole song flows, cake is awesome like that ^_^ ..
