What I wrote on the Viva La Vida SM page thing.

This song is about, well, power. How ruling something starts and ends.

'I used to rule the world
Seas would rise when I gave the word
Now in the morning, I sleep alone
Sweep the streets I used to own'
This song started with an old King, no longer in power, looking back on himself. He used to have so much power, but it was all gone now.

'I used to roll the dice
Feel the fear in my enemy's eyes
Listen as the crowd would sing:
"Now the old king is dead! Long live the king!" '
This was the beginning- He took over the first Monarch/Ruler and at first, people loved him. He was the King. He was the good man that was in charge.

'One minute I held the key
Next the walls were closed on me
And I discovered that my castles stand
Upon pillars of salt and pillars of sand'
At first, he was in charge. In control. Then, he was taken over by his own government. He was blind to his own power and evil. And people used that against him. He was on shaky ground- He was being judged now.

'I hear Jerusalem bells a ringing
    Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror, my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can't explain
Once you go there was never, never an honest word
That was when I ruled the world'
He needed protection, and he became bad. Corrupt. Honesty was over. He used people, as representation, as protection, as an army.

'It was a wicked and wild wind
Blew down the doors to let me in
Shattered windows and the sound of drums
People couldn't believe what I'd become'
He became a destroyer. He was the evil one- a dictator. A villain. People were shocked- Where had the king gone? The good one, the fair one? Who was this new person?

    'Revolutionaries wait
For my head on a silver plate
Just a puppet on a lonely string
Oh who would ever want to be king?'
His own people began to revolt. They needed to become their own people again- They needed to get away from this Dictator. He, The King was completely alone now- His power fading fast. He used to be such a figure, so looked up to. Now he was just evil. He was despised.

'I hear Jerusalem bells a ringing
    Roman Calvary choirs are singing
Be my mirror, my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can't explain
I know Saint Peter won't call my name
    Never rule this world
But that was when I ruled the world'
His corruption consumed him. The good King was gone. And he knew it too. He knew of his evilness and was powerless to stop it as his power backfired. He was taken over.
