Where is music today?
by JakeHigh on June 07, 2010Where is music today?
I think the best place to discover the answer to this question is listening to the radio. Mainstream today is overwhelmingly hip hop mixed with a little bit of rap and some alternative rock. The artists that get the most play are the ones who make the most money. And today making the most money means making a scene (lady ga ga) superficial lyrics with simple manings for the masses to understand (lollipop by lil Wayne) and hip hop beats or up beat rock.
So where is music today?
Music today is in a dark age. I would say main stream music has become the largest, most superficial, money making medium of art ever created. It cannot even be considered art anymore but rather media. Lack of creativity and a message has allowed music to stay in a stagnant state. Art is suppose to constantly change evolve and progress but with the huge coorprate labels of today they have taken talanted artists stripped them of all their voice and creativity and instead mold them into puppets slaves to the industry taught to repeat the same superficial and ambiguous music and lyrics that have become today's top charters and number 1 hits.
