Sonata Arctica is, at this moment, my favorite band of all time. I've seen them in concert twice. However, neither time has been with them headlining. The first time was September 12, 2008 (The Fillmore, San Francisco), and on that evening, they opened for Nightwish, who is, and has been for a long while, my second favorite band. The second time I saw them live was September 19, 2009 (The Grand @ The Regrency, San Francisco), when they opened for Dragonforce. While Dragonforce is, in their live performances, mediocre at best, Sonata Arctica always performs live beautifully. Here are the setlists Sonata Arctica played over their two concerts. September 12, 2008: In Black and White Paid in Full White Pearl, Black Oceans It Won't Fade Draw Me Don't Say a Word The Cage Vodka September 19, 2009: In Black and White Flag in the Ground Paid in Full 8th Commandment Full Moon Don't Say a Word Vodka Everything Fades to Gray I was happy with the setlists. Paid in Full and Don't Say a Word are my favorite pre-Days of Grays songs they have, and Flag in the Ground is my favorite from The Days of Grays. Overall, I would have to give them two thumbs up ratings for each concert, and I look forward to seeing them in April, 2010.
