  • CHANGE IN TASTE

    by xomusicmaniac94 on January 28, 2009
today i really feel like writing, if you couldn't already tell. i would like to explain my taste in music. it has really changed over the years...i was practically born listening to rock and roll. i swear, my parents must have put headphones on me as soon as i was born or something, because i know so many rock songs from the 70's, 80's, and 90's i still can't believe it. so basically, i grew up on 94 HJY and everything. then, as i started getting into my tween years, i suddenly started rebelling against it. rock music wasn't "cool". none of my friends listened to metallica, led zeppelin, or godsmack....yes, i was becoming a teeny bopper, so to speak. 92.3 was ALL I LISTENED TO. and when i was in the car with my parents, i forced them to listen to it too. occassionally, when my dad would refuse to put it on, and instead popped in a disturbed cd, i would scoff at it, cover my ears, etc....thankfully, i have grown out of that stage. yes, i still listen to 92.3 occassionally, and i do have more hip hop songs on my ipod than i'd like to admit, but i am truly becoming a rocker chic. 94.1 and 95.5 are my best friends, i can't listen to music without headbanging, i do air guitar occassionally and even air drums (haha)...yes, im making my father proud. both of his kids are rockers. and you know what? i am really liking this. now, if only i could gradually substitute my pinkish, preppy wardrobe for something more...black. i'm trying, even though it is hard. well, this week will be my step in a new direction: blue hair streaks possibly :)

  • MUSIC

    by xomusicmaniac94 on January 28, 2009
i love music so much. it can both relax me and get me fired up, make me depressed, angry, or happy. it's my escape from the world, yet i also try find the answer to the world in it too, if that makes any sense. i listen to music a lot, so i like to find hidden meanings in songs, try to understand better what the artists means. music can really show you the different perspectives on life that people have. for instance, U2 has more of an optimistic perspective.("beautiful day", anyone?) meanwhile, bands like disturbed have more of an angry outlook. they see more of the violence and destruction. (i also love political songs that speak out against the government. they are truly awesome.) another thing about music that i enjoy is when i can relate to it. i actually can't help it. i'll listen to, say, a linkin park song and think "wow, reminds me of the current situation i'm in now" or something. or maybe i've never even been in the situation the artist is singing about, but i can understand it, like the song "schism" by tool. great song by the way. i have also come to appreciate not only songwriters and singers more the past couple of years, but drummers and guitarists too...sadly, this is probably because of guitar hero, but still. for instance, i have newfound respect for metallica. a couple of years ago, i absolutely resented them. (okay, that was because i was forced to listen to them nonstop 24/7 everywhere i went, thanks to my father).....anyways, i just felt like expressing my feelings about the one thing in life that truly keeps me at peace.
