Isn't this "Live the Life"? This is a great song. It keeps changing person between a reborn Believer and our Savior Jesus Christ (maybe Christ actually becoming a part of this man's soul and speaking through him) To me it is about a man who thinks he gets what he wants (Once I was the king) and after he abuses his power, God leaves his life ("Once you were gone there never was an honest word") ((Jesus said He was the Way, Truth and the Light)) Then he says, "But that was when I was King" He comes in with a "wicked wind"--Evil, Satan Then the doors close in on him and he realizes that his castles are built on pillars of salt (Sodom and Gommorrah) and sand. (not on rock, like Peter's church). Then he suffers the fall because he realizes so many people are coming for his head for how he was living his life and he repents. Next is Jesus asking us to be His missionaries in a foreign field, to be His mirror (like him) His sword, his sheild (to be his army). He asks us this because He is in Jerusalem. (He will very soon be coming) The man is sweeping the streets because he has been humbled and now knows that he gets the most out of life (vida) by serving others. He's now sleeping alone instead of with a bunch of women he's not married to. The man doesn't think St. Peter will call his name because he knows he is a sinner and he doesn't (we don't deserve salvation). But as we Catholics say,(Roman Calvaries) "Only say the word (Lord) and I shall be healed". The song finishes with the man saying that he used to rule the world, but that was when he was king. He now knows that Jesus Christ is king of the world. This is a beautiful song of praise and humility. It makes me smile every time I hear it.
