Here are a few quotes that I enjoy concerning death. "He sniffed the air and sighed happily. He loved the smell of graveyards. The stench of rotting flesh, decaying bones and fetid earth was perfume to his nostrils. Sometimes he wished he was capable of falling asleep, just so he could sleep in a graveyard and wake up to that wonderfully rancid smell." -Darren Shan "He preferred dead people to the living. There was a strange beauty in death. Living people were always moving and talking and fidgeting. Only when they were dead could you get a good long close-up look at them and appreciate the intricate wonder of their design." - Darren Shan

Not exactly the best way to start your journal, huh? Well, I'm going to write about it regardless. When I finish high school, I'm going to go to school to become a forensic pathologist, or a medical examiner. It seems like a positively morbid job to most and some people are even appalled at it. They think that I'm insane for wanting to spend my day with corpses, but I think it's going to be amazing. My guidance counselor actually said she couldn't think of a job better suited for me. I'm still not sure if that was a compliment or an insult, but I'm flattered that she thinks I'll excel at it. The reason I want to become a forensic pathologist is because I cannot deal with people. I mean, I have trouble dealing with my best friends from time to time and the only person I never shy away from is my boyfriend. I'm the most solitary person I know and the thought of dealing with living people all day at work is somewhat frightening. At least when I'm with the dead I don't have to worry if I look alright or if I'm making a good impression. Death is a Godsend if you ask me. Plus, I just like the general aspects of death. It's the great equalizer. No one is better than anyone else when they're 6-feet under and have maggots fucking in their skulls. The dead don't judge each other, criticize each other, hurt each other, etc. Being in a room that is silent and utterly still except for myself and an assistant is a welcome break from the frustration and hectic pace of life.
