• Update on my life

Life’s been going pretty good here at Anderson. I’ve definitely been keeping busy. My classes haven’t been too rough. I’ve got First Aid Monday-Wednesday at 8 a.m. It’s been tough getting up that early My most difficult class looks like it’s gonna be Hebrew Roots of the Christian Faith. It’s my last religion requirement at AU and it’s definitely gonna be a challenge. The class has a lot of components to it that are new to me, so it’s gonna take some studying for me to pass the class. I think I’ve been keeping up fairly well. My athletic training class is fairly easy, theories of mass communication is boring but easy, and techniques of coaching football is just a blow-off class for me. The one class I’m really trying hard in is writing for the media. It could potentially be my career, so I really want to get a solid A in there and I’m off to a good start. Work for the Andersonian has been very rewarding so far. I’ve found some solid stories to cover and I’ve been getting a lot of good feedback from people. The best thing I’ve heard so far was when I ran into a player who I’d ran a feature story on. She’d suffered two season-ending injuries and came back for a fifth year of school just to give soccer one more try. When I talked to her after the story was printed she said, “Thanks for that story. It was awesome.” Made me feel like I’m accomplishing something here. I’ve also been working at the radio station. I do the sports updates at 330, 430, and 530 on Wednesdays and Fridays. Nothing really challenging, just glad to be getting my foot in the door at the radio station. The coolest thing happened this past Saturday. I fulfilled a dream I’ve had since I was a little kid, I got to be the color analyst for the AU football game. Now, my dream was to be the play-by-play guy for the Chicago Bears, but ya gotta start somewhere right? I think I’ll be able to get another football game sometime later this season, and I’m supposed to be doing all kinds of basketball games in the winter. I’m pretty excited about this opportunity. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do. As for the life outside of classes, that too has been going rather well. My floor has been awesome. I’ve been hanging out a lot with the guys on the floor. There’s been a few conflicts with the roommates, but that’s usually been the result of one of us just being in a shitty mood. Been hanging out with the same group of girls that I did last year, but I’d like to expand on that this year. I think it’ll be easier to do this year. There’s some girls that frequently hang out with other guys on my floor, it’s just a matter of getting myself introduced to them. I’m really looking forward to the breaks just to see all the old friends again, but I’m also gonna enjoy my time here. I went to Purdue a few weeks ago and had a blast. Home the following weekend was also a good time, even if there was a small turnout for the bonfire. All in all, things are going pretty good here. Just wish it would start snowing already. - Dave
