on the fifteenth...
by brittanyclimbstrees on November 17, 2007i went and saw bright eyes with the felice brothers and nik freitas.
i saw bright eyes during the last tour, and by the end of the set conor was nearly too drunk to stand up. during last night's show, the only thing i saw in his hand was a bottle of water. he didn't talk as much - and that was to be expected, but musically i think that the performance was tons better than the last show.
the show first opened with nik freitas, and i thought that he did a great job. he has one of those voices that no matter your musical taste you can appreciate. his pronunciation is reminiscent of bob dylan, and i found myself humming along lightly.
next was the felice brothers. when first they got on stage and started singing, i didn't think i would make it through the set. the drummer was a bit overzealous, and obnoxious - but by the end of the set i had their cd in my purse and i have been listening to it all day. their songs are honest, and tell-tale. throughout their show they would tell the back story of most every song. they kind of reminded me of old drunken irish men. the song 'ruby mae' was probably my favourite.
then bright eyes came on. as i said, musically he was probably fifty times better than the last time i had seen him. there were a few songs that i wish he had played, and a few that i wished he hadn't. he only played two songs from cassadaga, and i would've liked to hear at least a couple more. but when he started up 'lover i don't have to love' the crowd erupted in cheers as expected. the crowd was so different at this show as opposed to the last. it was a sea of hooded kids with bad hair cuts hugging. i figured i would at least see a few elitists... but really i only saw one, and it was kind of a let down.
but the show was fantastic.
