Is it possible to get bored of music? Because i think i am. Even when i turn to my own CD collection i think 'there's nothing here i want to listen to anymore'. Very little new music i listen to is interesting, only today a friend said. "Listen to this, it's really different i think it's right up your street." Sounded promising. Oh wait... No, just another emo-esc (is that right?) band with shouty bits, regular singing accompanied by musicians with about as much talent and imagination as a garden fence. If that's different, i don't hold much hope for the future. I really don't doubt there are some cracking bands out there doing some really interesting stuff. But they're only ever likely to get as big as Mogwai or Isis (If they're lucky), though Battles and Areogramme are starting to slowly get some more recognition. I'm also getting really annoyed with a few bands cropping up, that on the surface seem quite interesting. For example. 65 Days Of Static, the first song you hear is quite good, little different. Until you find out that's it, they run out of ideas after three minutes and one song. Nice try, but Mogwai you ain't. Off into to town now to sample some of Aberystwyths local music, i'm not getting my hopes up. You wont find the next Tool here, but if you're into bands that begin with 'The' and 'Post-emogrundgecore-insert-something-here-to-describe-that-typeofmusic' then Aber is probably the place for you. R! Get it? I went to see a few local bands two nights ago, they weren't bad. But my god they're boring. Actualy no, that's not fair they played well. But there's no imagination. They got together and said, we're going to be this type of band. Of the two bands i saw, they played about 4 of their own songs between them. Far too many covers. I dont see the point in that, the whole point of being a band is that you get to write and play your own stuff. First bassist was ok. The 2nd sucked, seemed more bothered about his image than writing a decent bassline. Root notes galore, with a stupid glowing thing on his finger like that band Enter "We use keyboards with our rock, its so groundbreaking. Well it isn't but idiots will buy in to it." Shikari. Number twelve, i hate even numbers Dattebayo!

A difficult decision has to be made. If you're anything like my you'll know how hard this decision can be... I think... I have a new favourite band, but i'm not sure. Bit of an anit-climax? Expecting something more profound? This is a very serious decision, and i've only had to make it once before when Tool overtook Our Lady Peace about 3 years ago. Since then OLP have slipped down my order. My top 5 as it stands is illustrated in a graph below. [- - - - - - - - - -] - Tool [- - - - - - - - -] - Isis [- - - - - -] - Mogwai [- - - -] - 10 Years [- - -] - Our Lady Peace As you can see Isis are creeping up on Tool. But i'm not sure if they can ever be my favourite band. I like the singing in Isis, but its just not at the awesome levels of Tools MJK. But Isis' songs do last longer and are more interesting from an instrumental point of view. I think, Tool have to remain top untill i've seen Isis live. Even though they cant hope to put on a show like Tool do, they're just not popular enough. Not that that's a bad thing. Nothing worse than when a band you like becomes popular. Why? Because it means now, the same people who listen to shit that tops the charts listen to what you thought was quite good music. But i dont think there's any danger of Isis making it into the top 10 of the uk charts. I hope. Dattabayo!

So i've got to do an assignment that should've taken 5 weeks to do in a day. No problem. Started reading the epic of Gilgamesh, you should try it. Interesting stuff. Far more interesting that your silly little lifes No one gives a shit. I dont care who you fancy, who you hate. Who is breaking up with who. How bad your day was. I'm not moaning, no-one wants to hear anyone moan, let alone read it. Well i am moaning, but about other peoples moaning. You could say "well dont read the journals." True, but i do read them. On the one off, one in a fucking million chance there is someone out there who shares my music taste. Isis, Mogwai, God Is An Astronaut, Tool... Prog... If you only know Tool it doesn't count. Dattebayo!
