Spleesh, last entry was a while ago. There is a reason for that though. Nothing exciting, and nothing new has really come out in the last few weeks. However, October 1st... What a glorious day that was. Sieges Even's new release, 'Paramount'. An excellent album, but i don' think they've topped 'The Art Of Navigating By The Stars'. But more importantly than this. 'Frames' The third album from Oceansize, it'd been a while since 'Everyone Into Position' and my god was it worth the wait. I hope this album finally gets the band the recognition they deserve. Oceansize are by far and away the most under-rated band to come out Britain, they've been doing very clever things for a long time now and besides a very loyal following, the majority seem to ignore their sheer brilliance. Never heard Oceansize? If you buy one album this year make it 'Frames' (Only Prog fans need bother ofcourse)

Just me again, saving you from some depressing emo's journal writing about his/her feelings and how crap his/her life is that they nearly killed his/herself. I take the piss and make no apologies. I've got until the end of Grinning Mouths (Isis) to write something here. Bought 4 new CD's that the avid prog fan should (if you don't already) own. Amplifier - 'Amplifier'. To the point, fairly heavy, good album. Jesu - 'Heart Ache'. Two, twenty minute long tracks, excellent well worth a listen if you have the patience. Pure Reason Revolution - 'The Dark Third'. This really surprised me. Not sure what i was expecting from them. But it wasn't what i heard. Imagine a mix of Lacuna Coil vocals and God Is An Astronaut music, probably a bad comparison but it's the best i can come up with. The 4th album was a 65daysofstatic album, if you know and like them it's hardly worth a mention as it isn't anything massively different from anything else they've ever done. But if you're completely clueless and like Mogwai, God Is An Astronaut and/or Aereogramme then give them a listen.

As usual, interrupting the moaners that mostly post journals on this site. No one cares, or wants to read about how you 'feel'. Got it? In my previous post i think i mentioned Porcupine Tree and how i lost interest in them as soon as i found out they'd been sighted on Kerreng TV. Though recently I've had a change of heart regarding them. On trip to my local record shop I bought another one of their albums (Metanoia) out of complete curiosity. Upon listening to it, you can hardly tell it's the same band. Deadwing was quite blatantly made to sell. Other than that, the prog-rock scene seems to be moving quite slowly, at least from my point of view. Envy are the most recent band I've come across that are worth a mention. I'm at that point where i need a band i know and love to release an album. I think Sieges Even are due a release soon and God Is An Astronaut have just release album if I'm not mistaken. If not, I've been thinking of tracing my routes. I'm well aware of the likes of Genesis, Yes and Rush, yet I only own one album from either of those. (Genesis _ Invisible Touch, hardly their greatest) Anyway, boring as i may be. Just think, you could be reading some emo boy/girls (fad, trend whatever you call it, it will be gone in a few years we can only hope) deepest darkest feelings. So deep and dark and secret that they need to share them with the world on their blog. Damn i hate that word.

"You know what always cheers me up? Laughing at other people's misfortunes." - Bender I think of that every time I read a journal here. Been on a bit of a binge lately, some good albums, one not so good album. Well actually terrible, unless i take complete leave of my senses and buy something in the charts, i wont hear a worse album all year. I couldn't even give it away and trust me, i tried. I can't remember the name of it, but for the love of god, stay away from a band called 'The Ocean'. Moving on... After ordering it three times from three different places and waiting six weeks, Amazon won the race to get Sieges Even: 'The Art of Navigating by the Stars' to me. But well, well worth the wait. Eight songs and over an hour long, my attention span is so vast when it comes to music that if a song is under five minutes it doesn't even register. Really. Picked up another album called Insomniac Doze by Envy, a Japanese band. You can't understand a word he's saying, but still sounds better than that thing in the band with the bloke from Russia, System or a something-or-other (Sarcasm? Me?). If Isis and Mogwai ever had a kid, Envy would be the result. When someone says "Well they sound like a cross between BandA and BandZ." to you, (Replace with actual band names accordingly) It's often not the case, but when i say Envy are like a cross between Isis and Mogwai, i really mean it. Listen for yourself if you don't believe me. I'm sure they've got a... What do you call it? My space. I actually got given a good CD by a friend yesterday, this rarely happens. By a band called Porcupine Tree. There had to be a catch, he couldn't find something like this before me... Not a chance. Then he slipped up. One of the songs had been on Kerrang, instantly killing my interest in them. Petty i know, but that's me. If it's on TV before i get to a band, it's not new. Off the shelf and unheard of, or not at all. Windmills do not work that way! Good night!

My god, a journal with some sense in it. "I would just like to remind those [who don't seem to know] that this is SONG MEANINGS.net. This is not OMGILUVTHISBAND.net. I'm glad you like this song, band, etc. but if your comment has nothing to do with the meaning of the song then please don't post it. I really sucks to have to look at post after post of meaningless comments when I'm trying to get some insight on a song." YaffaGirl Well said.

Been a while since any new music came my way, i've been so occupied with Isis in recent weeks to even give anything else a look in. But after a trip to town and £20 i managed to find two absolute gems. The new Battles album, 'Mirrored' and '1/F' by a new band to me, Immune. Mirrored wasn't what i expected but still very good. A lot more musical than EP B/EP C and singing, if you could call it that, for the first time. They come under a category known as 'Math-Rock' apparently, which sounds rather odd until you listen to the music properly and realize Math-Rock, actually sums them up quite well. I understand that saying it's more musical probably sounds a little daft, of course it's musical. It's music right? But if you've heard their previous stuff, you'll get what i mean. EP B/ EP C had a lot of tracks that were just random sound for 3 minutes and maybe 4 or 5 tracks on the entire EP that you might consider songs. Mirrored is a little friendlier to the listener, though most people i play Battles to tend to get a bit scared by it and wonder why the hell i listen to them. 1/F by Immune, woah. Listening to this was like the first time i heard Oceansize's Effloresce album. From what i've gathered they'd been working on this album for 3 years or so since an EP that i really don't know much about or heard. On the cover of the CD was a review that had all the right words on it, comparing some of their elements to Tool, Oceansize, Aereogramme, Pink Floyd and Massive Attack. Out of that list they remind me most of Oceansize, Don't buy it thinking you'll hear another Tool. Listen to some Oceansize and Aereogramme first. I'm, very, very fussy about my music but i'd go as far as to say this is one of the best random albums i've ever bought. If you're bored of Isis and Mogwai and want some decent Prog-Rock to sink your teeth into, this is it. Well, for what my opinion is worth to anyone reading. Two highly recommended albums there. Dattebayo!

Is it possible to get bored of music? Because i think i am. Even when i turn to my own CD collection i think 'there's nothing here i want to listen to anymore'. Very little new music i listen to is interesting, only today a friend said. "Listen to this, it's really different i think it's right up your street." Sounded promising. Oh wait... No, just another emo-esc (is that right?) band with shouty bits, regular singing accompanied by musicians with about as much talent and imagination as a garden fence. If that's different, i don't hold much hope for the future. I really don't doubt there are some cracking bands out there doing some really interesting stuff. But they're only ever likely to get as big as Mogwai or Isis (If they're lucky), though Battles and Areogramme are starting to slowly get some more recognition. I'm also getting really annoyed with a few bands cropping up, that on the surface seem quite interesting. For example. 65 Days Of Static, the first song you hear is quite good, little different. Until you find out that's it, they run out of ideas after three minutes and one song. Nice try, but Mogwai you ain't. Off into to town now to sample some of Aberystwyths local music, i'm not getting my hopes up. You wont find the next Tool here, but if you're into bands that begin with 'The' and 'Post-emogrundgecore-insert-something-here-to-describe-that-typeofmusic' then Aber is probably the place for you. Dattabayo!

R! Get it? I went to see a few local bands two nights ago, they weren't bad. But my god they're boring. Actualy no, that's not fair they played well. But there's no imagination. They got together and said, we're going to be this type of band. Of the two bands i saw, they played about 4 of their own songs between them. Far too many covers. I dont see the point in that, the whole point of being a band is that you get to write and play your own stuff. First bassist was ok. The 2nd sucked, seemed more bothered about his image than writing a decent bassline. Root notes galore, with a stupid glowing thing on his finger like that band Enter "We use keyboards with our rock, its so groundbreaking. Well it isn't but idiots will buy in to it." Shikari. Number twelve, i hate even numbers Dattebayo!
