  • 10 Reasons Why You Should Listen To Radiohead (if

by mintyexx on July 22, 2006
    1. They are from England, but do not have annoying britpop singing stances or accents. 2. They are Altrock, but have oviosuly been influenced by a great number of genre. 3.They themselves, have probably influenced half the bands you do already listen to. 4. They have morals. And stick to them. 5. Thom Yorke just released a solo album and if you have that, HOW THE HELL DID YOU HEAR OF IT WITHOUT LISTENING TOHIS BAND FIRST?? Sorry.. 6. Each and every one of their albums are good (apart from pablo honey, which is embarrassing), in a different way so there is always something for anyone. 7. They are completely and utterly original and have really found a new way of playing what they do. 8. They voice their opinions. 9. Look at their site, deadairspace 10. I like them. My taste in music is impeccable.

I like Murder By Death. I just do. Sometimes I wonder what Alternative is. Do people wake up and think: "Hey I am going to be Alternative today" then go and copy whatever someone who they think is Alternative is wearing? I just don't get that. It is a complete contradtiction, you can't be alternative if you've just copied someone else. Therefore, in theory, Alternative barely exists. If that is the case.. what the fuck have I been listening to these past years?

Is a pretty cool webcomic. It helped me convince some of my friends that I wasn't just making up the band, Broken Social Scene. New Zealand music is so underrated. I mean, the only bands that actually manage to get famous, do suck (by god, dave dobbyn annoys me so very much) But there is so much talent that is hidden because of those people. Like the whole "underground" music scene in Wellington at the moment is fantastic, but bad artists like The Finn brothers are just ruining our reputation, so no one ever notices them. Grr.

After obsessively talking about wanting this album for the past week, I finally got the chance to purchase it yesterday. I really like it, you can definetly hear the same things thom brings to radiohead in there. My favourite track is probably "And It Rained All Night", and at least half the songs made me feel like I was a drug addict.. in a good way of course. Not disappointing. I also bought The Bends (again..) and So So Moderns second Ep. Awesome.

I decided, that I am going to write a journal entry on whatever the first [or second] song that comes up on shuffle is. [Stanley Kubrick - Mogwai. .. Hmm I like that song.. but no...] Refrain - The Actualities. I hope they don't get pissed off I'm writing about them on here.. [hopefully they wont mind seeing as I am friends with one.] The Actualities are a [nice and approachable] band from Wellington, New Zealand, normally this would be their ticket to suck, but they are a talent young group [yes, they are all older than me, but young for the music industry]. They like to call themselves alternative country, but really, that pretty much bullshit. Personally, [and I am a GREAT judge of these things] I would say they are verging more towards the alt rock indie side of things. Their sounds can vary from slightly heavier stuff, such as at the drive-in and muse, to slightly lighter stuff, radiohead.. and whatever. While still remaining original. They have just recorded their first album, and you can hear two of the tracks at www.myspace.com/theactualities.com [the best 2 arent listed.. add my email if you want a quick listen.. and you dont have access to any of their shows..or something]. They are REALLY worth checking out.

Why has nobody submitted lyrics for Shipping News? Haunted on foot is a great song. I would put it in, but I am UNCERTAIN about half the lyrics. I recommend Shipping News to anyone who likes semi-soft rock. And to anyone who likes a change. And to anyone who like Minus The Bear.

At the drive-in. More than the Mars Volta or Sparta. I like the Mars Volta more than Sparta though. Therefore: ATDI>MV>S. I hate how everyone says At The Drive-In is emo. I also hate how everyone takes the piss out of emo. Including myself. Because emo, in its raw form, is really quite beautiful. Like Bright Eyes. Conor Oberst is possibly one of the most emo persons on the planet. In this sense, emo being able to show raw and undiminished emotion through creativity/song writing. So maybe At The Drive-In were/are emo. But I think that it is the good sort of emo, not the sort of pathetic kind...

I live in New Zealand. Thom Yorkes solo album came out today. And I want it. I hope it is as good, as I expect it to be. But I have high expectations when it comes to Radiohead. Luckily, they are always met. Singstar is possibly one of the stupidest games with the worst songs on the planet. And yet, it can be very fun. Alternative rock singstar would be the coolest thing ever. It would have bands like Radiohead and Muse and Death Cab. And a heavier singstar would be awesome. With The Blood Brothers and At The Drive-In. Although I guess no one would buy that. Or be able to sing it. How embarrassing, I am talking about singstar. I was slightly disappointed by Muses new album. I think Absolution was better. But, it does have some epic tracks.
