  • Neutral Milk Hotel = Genius

    by .Three.Lefts. on June 29, 2007
If you have not listened to the CD "In The Aeroplane Over The Sea" by Neutral Milk Hotel, do it, right now. Download it, borrow it from one of your smarter friends, steal it from your local indie music store, I don't care, just get it. The whole CD, all songs in the proper order, because the whole CD with the songs in order tell just this amazing story. I don't know what of, but I hope I figure it out soon. I am almost jealous of people who haven't listened to it, actually, because that means that they have the chance to listen to it for the first time, which is just an amazing experience. I first listened to it about five months ago, and I have to say, from that point until now it has been my favorite CD. This is actually saying something, considering I have listened to a TON of CDs since then. But this is just such an amazing CDs, using so many different instruments and amazing lyrics and vocals...just get it. The whole thing. If you must buy it - trust me, it is WELL worth whatever you may pay for it. I cannot stress enough how wonderful it is. Why am I spazzing over this CD, you wonder? Well, today, I was a little down in the dumps. Cue the violins, please. I don't know why, but I was, so, as usual, I self medicated on music like every other musically minded 11-18 year old teenage girl does. And what CD did I chose? In The Aeroplane Over The Sea. Why? Because I felt like being torn completely from my own thoughts - and that's exactly what this CD does. It's just...gah, I can't even tell you. While I am on a CD rant, I would like to suggest a few more...in case you want to know, here are my top 10 CDs, I guess. (In no particular order, except the number one, of course.) 10. Say Anything - ...Is A Real Boy >>This CD is basically about memorizing all the songs and singing along. Most of them are just these feel-good songs that are fun to sing to, but they all, I believe, at least have a meaning. Favorite songs: I Want To Know Your Plans; Woe; Every Man Has A Molly; Alive With The Glory Of Love 9. Queen - A Night At The Opera >>Yeah, so, this is basically just a random CD my gramma bought for my brother that I stole...and I just like it because the songs all range from one feeling to another, and plus, I got the Bohemian Rhapsody music video on a DVD that was included. =] Favorite songs: Seaside Rendezvous; Love Of My Life; Lazing On A Sunday Afternoon 8. Green Day - Dookie >>This was the first CD I bought for myself when I first got into music, and for about three months, it was like the only CD I had, so if I didn't love it, I was screwed. Nuff said, huh? Favorite songs: Welcome To Paradise; Having A Blast; Long View 7. Nine Inch Nails - The Fragile >>Screw anyone who says The Downward Spiral or Pretty Hate Machine. Both are great CDs, but The Fragile is just amazing. The instrumental songs are wonderful and really set NIN apart from any other industrial bands." Ripe (With Decay)", which is an instrumental, literally sends chills down my spine. Favorite songs: Starfuckers, Inc.; The Fragile; Ripe (With Decay); Into The Void 6. Sufjan Stevens - Come On Feel The Illinoise! >>If you've listened to this CD, you know what I'm talking about. If you haven't...I don't know what to say to describe it. >>Favorite songs: John Wayne Gacy, Jr.; Casimir Pulaski Day; Decatur, Or, Round Of Applause For Your Stepmother! 5. The Fratellis - Costello Music >>I love Britrock, so this fits really well. Some great party songs that make you want to dance around and act crazy, but enough meaningful lyrics to keep you listening. Make sure, if you get it, to try to get all the bonus tracks that are on some releases, namely, "The Gutterati", which is a great song but not on the common release. Favorite songs: Whistle For The Choir; The Gutteratie; Chelsea Dagger; Creepin Up The Backstairs 4. Say Hi To Your Mom - Impeccable Blahs >>A concept album about vampires. I love vampires. Hence, I love this CD. And I love lo-fi, so that helps. Favorite songs: Sweet Sweet Heartkiller; Blah Blah Blah; These Fangs; Snowcones And Puppies; Not As Goth As They Say We Are 3. The Velvet Underground - The Velvet Underground & Nico >>If you've seen Andy Warhol's iconic banana, yeah, that's on the cover of this CD. I don't really know what to say...it's just a great CD. It has upbeat songs, catchy songs, slow songs, and one song written as if the writer was on...oh, should I say...heroin? Oh, yes, my wit. Favorite songs: Venus In Furs; All Tomorrow's Parties; Femme Fatale 2. Pagoda - Pagoda >>Ok, freaking NO ONE knows who this band is, but look them up on this site, they're here. And they are simply amazing. All songs by them are just so good, I can't even tell you. The lead singer is also and actor...yeah, he's an actor in a band, but this actually works. It's just such an amazing CD, and it greatly saddens me no one will buy it...anyway, support them, buy their CD, www.pagodaonline.com, it's a greaaaaat CD! Favorite songs: Lesson Learned; Happy Song (not on the CD, kinda sucks); I Do; Amego 1. Neutral Milk Hotel - In The Aeroplane Over The Sea >>I believe I have already obsessed over it Favorite songs: It's hard to pick one because they all need to be listened to together...buy this CD, pirate it, I don't care, just listen to it!! Um, I'm not sure why I felt this strong need to tell you guys to listen to NMH and all those other CDs...I guess that it's just because, especially with Aeroplane, it's just these CDs are all so amazing, but people are so drawn in by mainstream music that they forget everything else. This is great music. All the CDs are. And they're pretty diverse, so anyone reading could probably find something they like. I guess what I'm trying to say is...be more open minded about what you listen to. Take random people's advice about what they like in music...that's what I do, at least. I find a random link for a random band and someone says "Oh my God, this is the best song ever!" about one of their songs, and I take that person's advice and download that song. Maybe I like it, maybe I don't, but I've found a lot of great bands that way. I won't list them all, because it's getting up there, but I do discover great music I never would have otherwise. Please, please, pleasssssssse get Aeroplane...it's just so amazing!! GET IT RIGHT NOW RAWR! I'm done obsessing. If you've read all of this, congratulations. Peace out?

Isn't that the cutest little smiley? Awww... So, battle of the bands rocked face. Not so much the actual bands, but it was great seeing all of my friends and the bf. I was so happy. So I went to the beach today...went to Wal-Mart and got some knock-off Converse yesterday...and went to the mall on Monday. I've been pretty busy compared to the first month of summer. I also got an e-mail asking me to help out with freshman orientation at my school...because obviously being a sophmore is gonna be so much cooler, right? Whatever. I was a drama geek in the ninth grade, which means I was a dork, but it also means I made a lot of friends...so being a freshman actually didn't suck. I have decided though, you guys. I am not depressed enough for this journal. I also doo nott rite lyke dis!!11! I believe I may be needing to change this... But no, seriously? It's so irritating when people can't type properly. It's not that much harder to write "too" instead of "2". And please, just because your mom yelled at you for not cleaning your room and your 13-year-old crush talked to another girl doesn't mean your life sucks. I mean, really. Grow the hell up. Sorry for bitching. I will go back to my normally jolly self and spread rays of sunshine upon you all. Speaking of which, I read the best book entitled "Punishment and Torture Throughout The Ages". It rocked so much face, I can't even tell you. It was super. It was just so interesting. So I'm going to see Harry Potter for my birthday. I pretty much did it so I didn't have to pay for a party. Haha. And I'm going to see Rocky Horror Picture show with the bf and his friend soon. So yeahh... Uh, believe that's all. Peace out?

  • Can You Say Battle of the Bands?

    by .Three.Lefts. on June 23, 2007
I'm going to point to myself and say "dork" now. I am so excited for this battle of the bands that's being held at my downtown library tomorrow. I've been planning to go with a bunch of my friends and the bf for about a month now, and I haven't seen them since school let out...a month ago. So yeahhh. That's about it. I went running again today. I love running. I had pizza too. Hence the running. I want another slice. I eat like a fat person. But I'm not. Yessssss. ? I don't know. I'm rambling? Yes. I am. Uhhh... Okie dokie then. I think I'll leave before I hurt myself. Peace out?

  • Taking Care Of Bidness

    by .Three.Lefts. on June 22, 2007
I had to run the house for almost two days basically by myself while my mom was out. I don't think I ever want a family now, haha. The stupid dishwasher wouldn't work...I had to mop stuff...I think I'll just be a nomad. Live in a different country every month. Which means I'll need money, while means I'll need to rob banks, which means I'll need a Clyde to my Bonnie. Any takers? Anyway, let's swing back into reality here, shall we, gentle readers? I am reading A Clockwork Orange. My brother gave it to me two Christmases ago and I started it but stopped halfway through, and now I'm reading the other half. It is such a good book, but it's hard to read because of the secret language Alex and his "droogs" speak in. So I put it down for a while. But now I'm back into the swing of the book and it is excellent. If you haven't read it, please do. As soon as I'm done reading it, I'm going to watch the movie. So I'm pretty excited. Yeah, I get excited over books. I just finished The Silence of the Lambs, and now I'm reading Hannibal. So that's really cool, and I'm going to be hardcore here and say I actually like Hannibal better, even though Lambs has more hype. I also recently read a book called "Jude the Obscure" by Thomas Hardy, and it was so wonderful. I had to read it for a school project, but I ended up loving it, and now it's one of my favorite books. So now I'm reading "Tess of the d'Ubervilles" by the same auther, and am happy to report it is also wonderful. I'm also reading Dracula. Yes, I do read four books at once. I can't stay focused on one story for more than an hour, but I like reading for more than one hour. So there's that. And I have rambled about books on a site about music. But really, they're kind of related, really. As are movies. Books, movies, and music are the three biggest outlets of creative expression and ideas, in my opinion, so really, they are very alike. You can make a movie based on a book with a kickass soundtrack (music) that expresses feelings and emotions from the book/movie. If that makes sense. They're related. Let's leave it at that. Ok, I really feel like I'm sticking my foot in my mouth, so I''l sign off. Peace out?

  • Dark Outside

    by .Three.Lefts. on June 20, 2007
No, that isn't the title of my memoir. It is dark outside...it's been threatening rain all day...it's actually been raining all day, on and off. It's quite lovely, I must say. I don't know what the draw is to a random blog. People on here read other people's blogs just for the fun of it - I expect people may read my blog just for the fun of it. But why do we do this? I expect it's to get inside someone's mind just for a while. It seems to me that many people on here write in their blog because they know no one they know will read it, or not many people they know will read it. So they are able to really write about what they really want to write about. It depresses me that many people take this annoynmous outlet to write about only depressing aspects of their lives. People can often seem shallow or pretentious in a blog. I think it's because you can't see the people when they're writing - it's different to have a conversation with people. You can see them inflect different words, stress different aspects of what they're saying. But when you're just writing, relying on italics, bolds, and underlines to punctuate what you're saying, it's hard to get your point across. If you're a poor writer, it's even harder. I consider myself an ok writer, but I'm bad at getting my point across or proving a point in conversation, let alone in writing. I'm very bad at persuasive essays, for example. I can only hope my writing doesn't confuse people. I tend to repeat or not make sense. For that I am sorry. So, I believe that's about all. Enjoy your day. Peace out?

  • Blog Thing?

    by .Three.Lefts. on June 20, 2007
Yeah, I know you've heard it before, but I'm going to say it again. Ahem. "Oh my God, there's a blog on here!" You can uncover your ears now. So, not much to say now. I kinda like the idea of blogging here though...not many people read it, so it doesn't really matter what you say anyway, huh? I need an annoynmous outlet, especially for the summer. I get bored easily. Lately I've been getting into the habit of finding bands with funny names, and many of them are techno/dance/electronic/grime influenced. Hadouken! Casiotone For The Painfully Alone Gravy Train!!!! The Faint You Say Party! We Say Die! Art Brut Klaxons All good bands. So check them out. I know some of them aren't that obscure, and for that, I'm sorry. Next time, I'll try to be more indie. I've also been obsessed with Bright Eyes lately. Fevers & Mirrors is like, my new favorite CD. So, that's all. I wonder if people will read this? Oh, and to another random blogger who wondered the same thing...art_xx, I read your blog, haha. Now read mine...I guess you already did. Peace out?
