The Basement Scene
by queefknot on January 13, 2005"This scene is dying. For too long people have betrayed the soul and the meaning of punk rock. Most people have bought into the cosmetics and fashion associated with the evolved style that was at one time punk rock. And now it has nearly lost all fucking meaning. There once was a reason. It meant something to rebel and say fuck you to the ignorant ways of a blind society. But what is there left now? There's hardly any comradery left aside from that which magically manifests during you're favorite bands sing-along. More and more frequently now I see kids searching for acceptance from a scene that has digressed into a backwards pile of shit. Why are you feeling the tension of competition from a person wearing the t-shirt of your favorite band? When was politics not an issue? When did D.I.Y. only apply to making buttons and designing your fucking Myspace layout? Is there anyone left that is thinking about this shit? Everything is all so impersonal on the computer. So go out to the shows and speak your truth. There is entirely too much popular controversy imbedded inside of this scene, and every person is just as passive as the next in regards to changing it. Straight Edge Kids, Vegans, Vegetarians to fucking Lumber Jacks it's time to get your shit together. It's only sometimes in this life that the things you don't do affect other people. More often than not it only affects you. So how could being passive about your claimed passion do anything good for what you love? It's time to be more than the audience if you truly love the music."
