Hello my now fellow musicites, I am hyper_hyo, the queen of all things good and holy and spit-upon-able (in a theoretical sense).
And since this is a music filled site, I will be ranting about things... Such as punk rock. REAL punk rock, not that fake shitty kind... like green day (fume, fume).
Anyway, so to those people that look at this and say "OMIGOD! I c4nt belive she just s4d th4t!!!!!1!!" (with their illiteracy, and their bad spelling, and their stupid-stupid-stupid-ness of them...) you have obviously never heard real punk rock. Let's take a test, shall we?
Question the first: Who are the Ramones
Question the second: Name six of their songs (with out looking them up)
Question the third: How many are still alive?
The answers to these questions will be in the middle of the paragraph so you don't try to cheat. In the mean time, I will share with you a little story I like to call "I Think We're in the Middle of the Paragraph Now". So the answers are (dun dun dun daaaaa) 1-the kings of punk rock, the gods if you will. They really were the beginning of punk. What, with their knowledge of three chords, the ability that one has to know all the lyrics of their songs after hearing one line, how could you say no? 2- You can search it now to see if the ones you thought of were real songs, but I'm going to prove myself by listing off 6 of my favourite songs: Chainsaw, Sheena is a Punk Rocker, Blitzkreig Bop, Rock and Roll High School, The KKK Took my Baby Away, Do you wanna Dance, etc.
3- Not many, I do believe only one was still alive and kickin' the last time I checked, but I might be wrong.... I hope I'm not, that would be embarassing.
On to the more recent punk rockers of our generation. AFI - one of my favourite bands, I love 'em to bits. Their songs have evolved from the Ramones by intencifying the lyrics and making them more mysterious, moody, poetic and gloomy. They have learned that there are more than three chords, and they fit this all together so well that you can't help but love them. Look up their official webite and look for the button at the bottom of the screen which says something along the lines of "Go to old website" click on it, and there should be a picture of a speaker on the navagaiton bar at the top which will allow you to listen to three of their songs: Head Like a Hole (orginally by Nine Inch Nails, but they do an awesome job), The Leaving Song Pt.2, and Girl's not Grey (the song that will make you fall in love with them, guaranteed).
Next I will tell you of a few bands that I also suggest if you start to get adventurous, and a few bands that you should avoid like one of those little yappy dogs that look small but have the capability of biting your left leg off. Some of my favourite punk rock bands (after the Ramones and AFI, of course) are The Alkaline Trio (they have somewhat cheery instrumental but more gloomy and less poetic lyrics and AFI), Thursday, and Thrice. I also like regular Rock bands, but they will be featured in another episode of "Music with Hyper_hyo!".
But there are some bands that you should never listen to, no matter how "popular" they are, or how ever often you used to listen to them -- just let them rot in the graves they dug. Firstly, Green Day (I can hear people sharpening their plastic katanas already....). I know, I know, people think they're great, but do what I said in the bit about AFI and you will soon see (or should we say "hear") the problem. Their lyrics have no substance, the melody of the songs are all very simplistic and rudimental. Even the guy that sings can't sing the songs so they fit in with the instrumental. LIke in that song about waking up, and september? I keep on hearing it on the radio, and every time I do, I always think "but that line doesn't fit" (it's the line about the memory res, .something-or-other). Face it kiddies, it just doesn't sound as good as anything else.
And I know I'm digging myself a deeper grave, and making more people dislike me, but update your winamp lists people. Blink 182 and Sum 41 and Avril La-ugly just don't have what takes. They basically have the same problems as Green Day does, but at least they don't really -try- to seem punk.
And finally, the stuff you should never ever ever ever ever ever listen to. Taking Back Sunday. I've said it before, and I'll say it again; they seem to have two people with equally ugly voices wanting to be lead singer and feel as if they have to compete with each other to recieve that title, and the only way of doing that is by singing louder than the other person. Also, their lyrics are terrible and their instrumental is just atrocious. It's a waste of you life listening to them, it's an even bigger waste to try to find a song of theirs to listen to -- take it from me, just don't do it.
So, that closes up the first installment of this musical journal, I hope you all enjoyed and don't hate me too much! Rock on my fellow punk rock liking guys! And to those of you that like Pop: here, have some hypothetical Diet Pepsi - the pep is what makes you LOOSE calories as you drink it!
(wink wink, nudge nudge)
