projects.

  • No, not public housing, papers and stuff like that. I have two big, challenging projects coming up - an english research paper on pretty much anything I want, and an engineering project to model a microfluidic mixer. The only thing that would be a problem with the english paper would be all of the research involved; I'm naturally lazy, and would prefer to just B.S. through something. On the mixer project, I just have no idea what I'm doing - my professor and some grad students have been working on this one, and they are having trouble coming up with a solution. However, I'm looking at the positive side-in my research paper, I can pick just about anything that I want, so it's garaunteed to be interesting. In my engineering project, my professor is giving me a lot of leeway, since he doesn't really have an answer himself. I've been given a lot of freedom in both of these projects, and that can be both good and bad. It's easier to work when someone tells you what to do and you just do it, but often a person's best work comes when they push themselves out in new directions, provided that they keep on task. That's the ultimate dillemma - disciplining myself. If I can discipline myself and not put stuff off to the last minute, not take the easy road, and not require someone to tell me what to do, then I will be able to do excellent work. Well, now that I know what I have to do, I might as well try and do it.
