Well Damn!

  • It's been something like seven months since I've been on here. I come back and not much has changed really. I decided to add more lyrics to Skip the Foreplay sine they've been lacking a bit. I got the CD and while it's not amazing it's definitely good for a first album. The band manages to set themselves apart from most other Synthcore/Metalcore&Electronica mix bands with a healthy and steady use of synthesizers intermingled throughout songs. In addition they often forego the use of a breakdown for a rather good, albeit fast paced, guitar solo. So here's my overall rundown on it (to whoever reads it). 1) ST4P - Standard intro song. Fairly good and fast paced (F YI - ST4P means Skip the Foreplay) 2) DJ - Probably pne of the best songs. It has steady use of synths and opens with an awesome guitar solo. It even prolongs the guitar breakdown with a dubstep based breakdown. 3) DTK - It starts rather monotonously but picks up around the chorus and manages to stay that way. 4) Hawaiian Killer - Pretty similar to DTK. It stays a bit faster and overall is a bit fresher but it's not the best. 5) Dom Perignon - Opens with a breakdown which is quite interesting. It's also the only one to feature clean vocals, however limited and autotuned they are. The song is really one glorified breakdown with a Bring Me The Horizon-esq grindcore section. A nice solo keeps well mixed and tides over to the last breakdown. Overall a unique, and surprisingly good. 6) Dinner With Snooki - ST4P's attempt at an Attack Attack! Interlude or Abandon All Ships Strange Love. Nice and dubstepy but nothing amazing. Hey, at least its got wubs. 7) Shots - Honestly I got nothing. It's pretty forgettable. A nice synth/guitar riff intro keep it nice but the rest really makes me look at my iPod to make sure this is Skip The Foreplay and not a Bring Me The Horizon with synths that I never heard. Next. 8) Date Rape predator - Opens and closes well but overall is not that good. Nice breakdowns though. 9) Destination Nowhere - The synth intro had me going and the breakdown that went with it was nice. I liked it because it had a "lost" feeling. Not surprising considering the title. The synth held a much more lead role in this one through. 10) This City (We're Taking Over) - This one has it all. Deathcore, Synthcore, Metalcore, and a bit of Crunkcore too (hey I don't make the names, I just find out what they mean). It also features guest vocals from Jonathan Cabana of Blind Witness, Alex Erian of Despised Icon, and Tyler Hoarei of Blessed by a Broken Heart. Overall probably the best on the CD. 11) Hangover - I just can't get into this one. After the speed of the last two this one slows down too much. You can tell the album doesn't have much fight left. 12) Mash It Up - A good closer. Not amazing if it was, say, #6, but definitely good for it's position. Opens with a bang and it stays pretty steady throughout. Slows at the end, but hey, it's the penultimate song. 13) Champagne Showers - Here's a riddle. What do you get when get when you take the popular song Champagne Showers by LMFAO and give it so ST4P to cover. A damn fine song. It's basically the same but add in some remixed synths, guitar, guitar/dubstep alternating breakdowns, and guitar solos and you have a whole new perspective on the song. That's about. Till next time, ciao.
