  • When one does completely dance with freedom and tact and without contrived artiface it can be looked at as a pure thing in which is beautiful. A dancing in which that person does not look to the right or to the left but dances, but dance with a total focus on movement and not thinking, thought without introspection self consciousness or pride. That dance is a beautiful one which is without any pride. A pure dance that gives one life and cannot be predicted. Contrived motions can be detected as somewhat of a consciousness that people are watching in contrast to a total let go which forgets the self and focuses on one point, that point being the music or a dot on the floor. In that situation it is not a contrived dance which assumes and tries to become order, but a natural expression. This being freestyle, that Im talking about. The contrived dance is too individualistic and selfish and narcisstic, thus one must become aware of others and make the act a group project rather than a complete solo performance. When two people dane together, it must be pure in order for it to be beautiful. Pure being clean from any selfish or sexual undertones or connotations, which make hierarchies and is the very reason people quit dancing. When people figure out how to freestyle dance, which is essentially forgetting about the public opinion and moving with fluid motions, and they begin to become narcissitic or selfish in the people who are watching, that is the moment that ruins everyone the group’s ability to enjoy his or her self as a whole. Lines are drawn on who is able and who is not and thus making those who haven’t figured out how feel inferior. Of course sexual connotations are ridiculously disgusting and lack any taste whatsoever, even though they are the easiest motins to do while dancing, due to the idiocy of popular culture and music today. What I miss are the days of group dance. All those dances that people did in the 19th century where so about the group and not individualistic. I think it has something to do with the individualistic attitude today. People are too prideful to participate in a group square dance or one of those salsa dances that the school has clinics on that I never attend. Or swing dance. It takes a bit of humility to do a group dance because everyone is taking part in a pleasure altogether. Nobody is the center, everybody does it together, its kinda like a conversation, or a long conversation that has no rants or pointless stories, but exchanges. Furthermore, the dance of the group bring continuity and smiles. Then there is the idea of the concert that is somewhat absurd. A singer/songwriter/band who gets in front of many people and perform. It seems to me when music was first being created it was somewhat like oral tradition of storytelling where every person in the room sang outloud and contributed to the whole of the sound. It was altogether instead of an individualistic endeavor of one person who performs all the songs and is praised for 2 and a half hours. I believe that if everyone contributed it would bring a stronger sense of unity and togetherness instead of performance. It’s really procommunity pro-postmodernism/utilitarianism theory but everyone would be equal and singing and having fun, the only contrast would be that the band would be the leaders instead of this whole praise of one band.
