Good day to you all.(: My name is Dana, and today, I review Forever The Sickest Kids's 'The Weekend: Friday'. Now before I start, I'd like to inform everyone that I am just reviewing this for fun, and to let people know what I think, or even what they should expect. So I hope I don't get any hate from this. (:
SO I think I'll start by reviewing the album cover. Now, I've read a whole bunch of other reviews, and most of them are rather judgemental of what Forever The Sickest Kids is trying to impose. Many have said that the thought of the member of the band running out of school like crazy IS crazy because the truth is that these men are approaching their mid-twenties. That's what others think. I say that they've done the cover to capture the essence of the excitement that we all don't even try to hide when it's the last period of school on a Friday. They find that the best way to connect to their fans is to share what they know. We have to remember that these boys were also teens. All of us would probably run out of the school grounds like crazy if given the chance. Hence the album cover.
The Weekend: Friday has 7 tracks: 'Do or Die', 'Tough Love', 'She Likes(Bittersweet Love)', 'Take It Slow', 'Hip Hop Chick', 'What Do You Want from Me', and 'Hawkbot'.
If you would check their Facebook fan page, you would find videos of them giving short explanations of the songs.
'Do or Die', as their guitarist Marc Stewart claims, is about you and your best friend falling for the same girl. If you would take a closer look at the lyrics, you would understand. Now the music. Most people were not happy about the band using the synth, moreover the fact that this song was just a recreated version of 'You Won't Stop Giving Your Love' of Been Bradley. I happen to think it's really good though, a perfect way to start the EP. It's tunes make you want to know what else new FTSK has put together,
'Tough Love', as their drummer Kyle Burns claims, is about love, and how painful it can sometimes be. I've read plenty of reviews, and they're all upset that they didn't put anymore effort into the lyrics. I for one can't disagree more. They're kids, kids fall in love, love breaks your heart, your heart gets hurt and played. Most people can't see the big deal, 'How many other bands write about heartaches?' they ask. But the heartache is the key to the music that keeps me alive right now. This song tells us kids that we're not alone, they've been there too and they know how it feels, and this song is a way to explain it easily.
'She Likes(Bittersweet Love)', as their guitarist and back-up vocalist Caleb Turman claims, is about a girl who likes hurting her guy. Out of all the Weekend: Friday songs, this has become the most popular because of it's busting rad tunes and it's lyrics, moreover because of its music video. They've incorporated into the video what the song means in one way or another. These boys have been dumped, treated like dirt, and dragged around by their hearts, and now they're not afraid to explain. In the music video, they compete with one another for the said 'Forever The Sickest Cup', and on their way, they try to impress a girl. And they all end up looking like dorks.
'Take It Slow', as their bassist and back-up vocalist Austin Bello claims, is about them telling girls to take it slow. And I won't complain about them complaining. Men are men, women are women, and like it or not, both sexes have their imperfections. One imperfection of many women is the fact that they want what they want, and they want what they want fast. And when they're into guys, they'd want to make things fast-paced instead of taking it slow. Most relationships that are rushed end up in terrible heartaches and lonely weekends. So take it slow.
'Hip Hop Chick', as their keyboard and synth player claims, is about you falling for someone out of your league, and someone you never thought you'd fall for. As in the song, they use themselves as the example. You're a rockstar, and you don't fall in love with hip hop chicks. In the song, they explain how it's crazy to meet someone to fall in love with in a bar. You start talking, soon you're in love. Your friends know that she isn't your type, and they try to knock sense into you. But then you explain that love isn't just what you like. It's also what you didn't think you loved then, and what you've fallen in love with now.
'What Do You Want From Me', as Burns claims, is an introduction to know what their fans want from them. On my part though, I think it's about people expecting what you don't have from you. Look at the pararellism. While 'Whoa-Oh!(Me vs Everyone)' is about you expecting so much from yourself, 'What Do You Want from Me' is about people expecting too much from you. You're tired, and you just want to make people happy. You've done everything you could, and yet people still expect more from you. So you go crazy. You stop trying to impress and ask it to them straight: What do you want from me?
'Hawkbot'. None of the 6 band members gave an introduction on this. So I'll try to tell you what I think it means. They did it with Chae Hawk, so you should expect this won't be THEIR material. But to their defense, I come rescue. While most of you are upset that this song is about grindin' on girls, FTSK only talks about the girls doing robots, and trying to get into a club for a fun Friday night.
All in alll, the reviews say Forever The Sickest Kids'
