The others laugh, they don't have time for music from the times when it was communicated with a contemptuous sneer. Television screens fuzzy and faded, hair and clothes of the audience outlandish and strange through a VCR haze. The men with floppy fringe, short back and side haircuts, women clad in oddly businesslike yet dynamically patterned suits with tumble-down, permed dyed locks. Everyone is laughing at something, their faces red and absurd in the stands. The man with the owl eye spectacles guffaws. Jagged lines, black, grey and white obscure the screen with the electronic immediacy of a heart monitor.
