Life & Lyrics

  • What is it about the way just one line in a song can completely change your aspect on life? Or the way you remember your past? Or even the way you see yourself? I always say that I have a Modest Mouse philosophy on life, meaning that no matter what is going wrong in my life, or what my problems are, I can find the answer to it in a modest mouse song. But today,it's not MM that is sticking out of my head, it's Regina Spektor's Hotel. I don't know why today this is bugging me, I listened to this song about 1,000 times and never had this line stick out until today: Floaters in my eyes Wake up in a hotel room Cigarettes and lies I am a child, it's too soon I am beginning to wonder if this is where I am in my life. Part of me, especially when it comes to love and growing up, still has the mind of a child — ignorant, naive, all sunshines and rainbows. Then one day you wake up and are forced to face what is real. Has my whole life been cigarettes and lies? Will I ever be ready to face what is real? Damn you, Regina Spektor for making me feel so lost! That's usually Isaac Brock's job...
