ellyn said I'm all about breaking big dreamers
& the stories they tell.
I'm all about finding these liars
with the gamblers & the crooks & the big books
they sell.
cruel kids dance with the sunrise
popping pigeons, tasting all noise,
hoping for all these sorrows to melt
to melt, oh to melt.
we don't have a lot of promise
but oh do we have energy to expel,
expel, lots of energy to expel.
suck the lightning through our veins
and damn our lovers straight to hell.
yes to hell. always to hell.
because it's easier to hate
with all the vengeance that was love
or maybe passion
then it is to
wish them well. be on our way,
just build our own life and wish
them well.
now i have shards of glass & shadow friends,
all these borrowed decorations: nothing's mine
and the future's flooding in through those blinds
(i stole from an old motel)
stupid
fucking motel. where we ate fresh fruit
and cleaned our teeth and washed our hands
of what's going on beneath the sheets
and watered the dark corners in which we dwell.
in which we suffer & we loiter & we dwell.
in which we mold, in which we falter, in which we dwell.
there are big kids on the playground,
& there are hunters in the streets
& and we will skirt around these issues
but it won't muddy such brilliant strokes of pastel.
oh yes pastel. yes this city has pastel.
these brilliant violets, dashing greys//
everything in this town is set to fade,
because all that was once sure and clear
is smearing.
it floats upward into the haze
dances with the smog & all the change
and yet when it finally, finally rains
the streets
will find us.
the world
will meet
us in our
place &
maybe just
for that one
day the walls
will dissipate.
