Neutral Milk Hotel = Genius

  • If you have not listened to the CD "In The Aeroplane Over The Sea" by Neutral Milk Hotel, do it, right now. Download it, borrow it from one of your smarter friends, steal it from your local indie music store, I don't care, just get it. The whole CD, all songs in the proper order, because the whole CD with the songs in order tell just this amazing story. I don't know what of, but I hope I figure it out soon. I am almost jealous of people who haven't listened to it, actually, because that means that they have the chance to listen to it for the first time, which is just an amazing experience. I first listened to it about five months ago, and I have to say, from that point until now it has been my favorite CD. This is actually saying something, considering I have listened to a TON of CDs since then. But this is just such an amazing CDs, using so many different instruments and amazing lyrics and vocals...just get it. The whole thing. If you must buy it - trust me, it is WELL worth whatever you may pay for it. I cannot stress enough how wonderful it is. Why am I spazzing over this CD, you wonder? Well, today, I was a little down in the dumps. Cue the violins, please. I don't know why, but I was, so, as usual, I self medicated on music like every other musically minded 11-18 year old teenage girl does. And what CD did I chose? In The Aeroplane Over The Sea. Why? Because I felt like being torn completely from my own thoughts - and that's exactly what this CD does. It's just...gah, I can't even tell you. While I am on a CD rant, I would like to suggest a few more...in case you want to know, here are my top 10 CDs, I guess. (In no particular order, except the number one, of course.) 10. Say Anything - ...Is A Real Boy >>This CD is basically about memorizing all the songs and singing along. Most of them are just these feel-good songs that are fun to sing to, but they all, I believe, at least have a meaning. Favorite songs: I Want To Know Your Plans; Woe; Every Man Has A Molly; Alive With The Glory Of Love 9. Queen - A Night At The Opera >>Yeah, so, this is basically just a random CD my gramma bought for my brother that I stole...and I just like it because the songs all range from one feeling to another, and plus, I got the Bohemian Rhapsody music video on a DVD that was included. =] Favorite songs: Seaside Rendezvous; Love Of My Life; Lazing On A Sunday Afternoon 8. Green Day - Dookie >>This was the first CD I bought for myself when I first got into music, and for about three months, it was like the only CD I had, so if I didn't love it, I was screwed. Nuff said, huh? Favorite songs: Welcome To Paradise; Having A Blast; Long View 7. Nine Inch Nails - The Fragile >>Screw anyone who says The Downward Spiral or Pretty Hate Machine. Both are great CDs, but The Fragile is just amazing. The instrumental songs are wonderful and really set NIN apart from any other industrial bands." Ripe (With Decay)", which is an instrumental, literally sends chills down my spine. Favorite songs: Starfuckers, Inc.; The Fragile; Ripe (With Decay); Into The Void 6. Sufjan Stevens - Come On Feel The Illinoise! >>If you've listened to this CD, you know what I'm talking about. If you haven't...I don't know what to say to describe it. >>Favorite songs: John Wayne Gacy, Jr.; Casimir Pulaski Day; Decatur, Or, Round Of Applause For Your Stepmother! 5. The Fratellis - Costello Music >>I love Britrock, so this fits really well. Some great party songs that make you want to dance around and act crazy, but enough meaningful lyrics to keep you listening. Make sure, if you get it, to try to get all the bonus tracks that are on some releases, namely, "The Gutterati", which is a great song but not on the common release. Favorite songs: Whistle For The Choir; The Gutteratie; Chelsea Dagger; Creepin Up The Backstairs 4. Say Hi To Your Mom - Impeccable Blahs >>A concept album about vampires. I love vampires. Hence, I love this CD. And I love lo-fi, so that helps. Favorite songs: Sweet Sweet Heartkiller; Blah Blah Blah; These Fangs; Snowcones And Puppies; Not As Goth As They Say We Are 3. The Velvet Underground - The Velvet Underground & Nico >>If you've seen Andy Warhol's iconic banana, yeah, that's on the cover of this CD. I don't really know what to say...it's just a great CD. It has upbeat songs, catchy songs, slow songs, and one song written as if the writer was on...oh, should I say...heroin? Oh, yes, my wit. Favorite songs: Venus In Furs; All Tomorrow's Parties; Femme Fatale 2. Pagoda - Pagoda >>Ok, freaking NO ONE knows who this band is, but look them up on this site, they're here. And they are simply amazing. All songs by them are just so good, I can't even tell you. The lead singer is also and actor...yeah, he's an actor in a band, but this actually works. It's just such an amazing CD, and it greatly saddens me no one will buy it...anyway, support them, buy their CD, www.pagodaonline.com, it's a greaaaaat CD! Favorite songs: Lesson Learned; Happy Song (not on the CD, kinda sucks); I Do; Amego 1. Neutral Milk Hotel - In The Aeroplane Over The Sea >>I believe I have already obsessed over it Favorite songs: It's hard to pick one because they all need to be listened to together...buy this CD, pirate it, I don't care, just listen to it!! Um, I'm not sure why I felt this strong need to tell you guys to listen to NMH and all those other CDs...I guess that it's just because, especially with Aeroplane, it's just these CDs are all so amazing, but people are so drawn in by mainstream music that they forget everything else. This is great music. All the CDs are. And they're pretty diverse, so anyone reading could probably find something they like. I guess what I'm trying to say is...be more open minded about what you listen to. Take random people's advice about what they like in music...that's what I do, at least. I find a random link for a random band and someone says "Oh my God, this is the best song ever!" about one of their songs, and I take that person's advice and download that song. Maybe I like it, maybe I don't, but I've found a lot of great bands that way. I won't list them all, because it's getting up there, but I do discover great music I never would have otherwise. Please, please, pleasssssssse get Aeroplane...it's just so amazing!! GET IT RIGHT NOW RAWR! I'm done obsessing. If you've read all of this, congratulations. Peace out?
