ok, what the spoon is with that article? It poses so many questions that I will just have to ask you them:
1) Green Day is 70's punk?
2) They resurrected punk single-handedly?
3) American Idiot is ROCK OPERA?!?
4) A 12 year old kid doesn't know what a hand grenade looks like?
Does anyone even know what 70's punk is nowadays? Like, Green Day isn't even punk to begin with, but to say they play punk from the best punk period of all time? BLASPHEMY!
Is Green Day the only band out there that are considered punk? What about AFI, Alkaline Trio, Thrice? What about Good Charlotte or Blink 182? Did they not have anything to do with punk? (Scraping the bottom of the barrel there) Sure Good Charlotte and Blink 182 may not be very punk, but they definately made it way more mainstream than Green Day has.
Queen is rock opera, not American Idiot. There are no parts of the song that even assume the possibility of it being rock opera!
Even when I was in Grade 3 and 4 I knew the song "Hi Ho, Hi Ho, It's off to school we go, With hand grendades and razor blades, Hi ho, Hi ho Hi ho Hi ho" If anything, the only thing I was unsure of the appearance were razor blades.
Also, just so you know, I didn't mind Green Day back in their "Oh, we're just another rock band" days, but when they start trying to be punk, it just burns me up. It's like when Jennifer Lopez thought she was an actress? And we all know how that turned out (coughGIGLIcough)
Peace.
PS, I know that there are only a few real punk bands listed in that little list, but I haven't downloaded much punk over the last year.... I've been distracted by the awesomeness that is Mando Diao.
People are just so stupid.
