El-P is an abbreviation of El-Producto, both pseudonyms of New York City, NY, USA, underground hip-hop producer/rapper Jaime Meline. As a member of Company Flow, he honed his production skills alongside DJ Mr. Len and Bigg Jus. His unique style helped Company Flow gain critical, then popular success, culminating in 1997 with Funcrusher Plus. Eventual differences between the group & label Rawkus, lead to El-P & Len leaving the label in 2000.
El-P has been a major driving force in alternative hip hop for over a decade, producing for several notable underground rappers.He is the co-founder, owner and chief executive officer (CEO) of the Definitive Jux record label. El-P is also a member of The Weathermen and art collective Cardboard City. In 2013, he formed the hip-hop duo Run the Jewels, with frequent collaborator Killer Mike.
