A self-proclaimed “audio creative”, Kyle Murdock has worked professionally in the field of media the last 20 years in both the commercial and educational realms as a sound designer, music engineer and audio professor.
A proud alumnus of Howard University, Kyle grew up with an inexplicable passion for all things audio-related and a desire to follow in the footsteps of his late uncle, fellow Bison Melvin Lindsey, who is best known for co-creating & originally hosting the worldwide radio format known as The Quiet Storm. Kyle’s radio path, however, took him down a more technical road landing him a job, post-college, at the company XM Satellite Radio where he worked for nearly a decade designing sound as an “audio animator” primarily for the service‘s Hiphop & Jazz programming. One of Kyle’s professional highlights while at XM was working as an engineer & editor on award-winning shows with music legends Quincy Jones & Wynton Marsalis.
During his time in satellite radio, Kyle began expanding his audio skills by recording, producing & mixing music; That led to him helping to create critically acclaimed projects as a part of the group Panacea while being signed to revered indie hip-hop label Rawkus Records. In an effort to get his name and talents out beyond his bedroom, Kyle began working with other talented DC-based artists like Wes Felton, Asheru & Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Raheem Devaughn.
Kyle’s self-proclaimed “Neosonic” (new-sound) productions have taken shape over the last two decades helping him not only garner respect from fans across the world but also befriend & collaborate with some of his favorite production contemporaries – DJ Spinna, DJ Nu-mark of Jurassic 5 & Nicolay of The Foreign Exchange. Kyle’s passion for hip-hop music is equally matched by his love of video games and the sonic fusion of those two influences the last 20 years, have forged relationships for him in the gaming industry as a producer-usually with frequent collaborator, Capcom-licensed emcee, Mega Ran, whose music has helped galvanize the hip-hop sub-genre called “nerdcore”.
Currently, Kyle works exclusively as a Sound Designer for the worldwide media company Vice; He also serves as an adjunct professor at various Washington, DC-based universities teaching audio production. And, when time permits, Kyle can be found still creating his own personal passion projects for the record label Random Beats Music.
