Daucus Karota started life in 1979 as one of the many short-lived bands Rozz Williams played in before Chrisitian Death. This version of the band featured Rozz Williams on vocals, Mary Torciva on percussion, and Jay Albert on guitars. After Rozz formed Christian Death in October 1979, activity with Daucus Karota ceased. In 1983, following the dissolution of the first incarnation of Christian Death, Rozz joined Valor Kand's band Pompeii 99, intending to call the reformed band Daucus Karota. However, Valor and Yann Farcy, the head of the French record label l'Invitation au Suicide, insisted on keeping the name Christian Death, and Rozz reluctantly accepted. It would be another decade before the name Daucus Karota would resurface. In the 1994, after recording several albums in other bands, including a parallel version of Christian Death, Rozz decided that the name Shadow Project be changed to "Daucus Karota". This band, featuring Rozz, Mark Barone, Christian Omar Madrigal and Roxy, recorded one five-track EP, entilted "Shrine". The EP was recieved favourably, and the band even went on a Europen tour, but they never made another record, and all plans for a reunion were eventually cut short when Rozz Williams took his own life in April 1998.
