Jóhanna Guðrún Jónsdóttir, born on 16th October 1990, known Internationally as Yohanna, is an Icelandic singer who came to fame after being chosen to represent her nation at the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 in Moscow, Russia, with the song "Is It True?", she ended up earning second place and fame and love in Iceland and across other European countries.
She grew up in the small port town of Hafnarfjörður (anglicized Hafnarfjordur) in the Höfuðborgarsvæðið (English: Capital Region/Greater Reykjavik) region of Iceland, she started performing on stages at the age of 9 after participating in professional singing lessons. Her first album was named Jóhanna Guðrún 9, released in the year 2000, mainly contained Popular Worldwide Hits (Such as Torn by Ednaswap/ Natalie Imbruglia and I'll Be There by The Jackson 5.) and translated into Icelandic, her native language. She realeasted one more album, plus a christmas album, and stared in musicals befor stepping down from Child fame.
Yohanna's new album Butterflies and Elvis (2008) marked her return to fame, but this time as a young adult (aged 18). The album was released in both Iceland and Sweden (reaching 19th in the Swedish charts) with her first single to be I Miss You. Since Eurovision, Yohanna has performed in countries such as Norway, Sweden, Finland and Turkey. On 12 May 2009, Yohanna qualified for the Eurovision final after winning first place in the first semi-final. For the final in Moscow, she was joined on stage by backing-vocalists Friðrik Ómar, Erna Hrönn Ólafsdóttir, and Hera Björk (Who reprisented Iceland in 2010 with her song Je ne sais quoi). She came in second place behind Norway, with 218 points. Her debut song, Is It True? went on to become a top download on iTunes and a hit in several countries, Getting into the top ten in Iceland, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Greece and Switzerland. Yohanna also was Iceland's spokesperson at the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 revealing the results of the Icelandic voting. She has gone on to lead a successful career releasing Multipul Singles and reaching fame in Europe, and she is still continuing today!
