1280 almas is a band founded in Bogota, Colombia and alive since 1992. Is one of the most important rock bands in its country.
The name "1280 almas" (1280 souls) was taken from the Jim thompson's novel, Pop. 1280. The group was found in 1992 by Fernando del Castillo, Pablo Kalmanovitz, Leonardo Lopez, Juan Carlos Rojas, Hernando Sierra and Andres Vargas.
Their first album was Hablame de horror, edited in 1993 in casette format by the Hormigaloca independent record label, which they were know in the Bogota's rock background. This album was included in 2007 in the Semana magazine as one of the most important albums of the last 25 years.
The following year they presented the album Aqui vamos otra vez, recorded by the mexican label La culebra. In 1996 was presented the album La 22; that, despite being sold out of the mass media, recieved good comentaries from the press.
With a proposal closer to the latin rithms and the influence from american post-hardcore bands like Fugazi, they released in 1998 the album Changoman, being it's main song Pasado Animal. Since 2000 the group started the self edition of their music, releasing then, in the 2003, the EP Bombardeando and the next year the album, Sangre Rebelde.
In 2009, the group planned the edition of a DVD with their hits in concert, starting its promotion with the free download of the song Surfiando en sangre, a incursionin the interpretation of surf rock.
Starting the 2011,the band started the recopilatory disc, which they registered in pub in Bogota. The album Alegria por encima de la tristeza included the DVD with three performances at stages in Bogota. This work was edited by Velouria TV, with printing for colectionists and fans.
At september 29th, 2012 was released their last álbum, Pueblo Alimaña, in a cncert in the symbolic Jorge Eliecer Gaitan theater, chosen because was the place were they started, and where one of their most important albums was composed, La 22. The last album, with the politic and social scenario of the country as its topic, was produced completely by the band itself in its studio, La coneja ciega.
