The band began performing at smaller venues in the Los Angeles area. They were picked up by the Lionsgate Music label sometime in 2008, and on October 21st they released their first EP under the label. Around that time, they had a plan of releasing four EPs every four months; since the first was released in October, the following three would have been released in November 2008, December 2008, and January 2009. However, in 2009 they scrapped the plan to release the following three EPs, and in 2010 they decided to finish a full-length album with producer/mixer Neal Avron. With fans awaiting their LP release on the Lionsgate label. On April 30th, they posted on their MySpace; they announced that the album is finished, and five songs from the final mixes were uploaded for listen

However, as it seemed everything was moving forward and the future of Glacier Hiking seemed bright, something behind the scenes happened, and the band disbanded. On March 11, 2011, on their Facebook post, they said: “Dearest Glacier Hiking fans, Our music will have to live in your iPods and on the Internet. It was just time to cut ties and move on. Tommy will still be pursuing music. Ross will still be pursuing music. And they will always welcome your support. Thank you so much for everything. Long live GH.”

While it may seem that there was no real explanation for why they disbanded, on February 19, 2016, Ross was interviewed. The interviewer asked why he decided to focus on writing for other artists; he said, “My last project disbanded in 2010-ish. Let’s just say that bands have ego issues and I found that you can’t have an ego in writing sessions…you can write with new people every day. And if you don’t like who you’re writing with, you don’t have to write with them anymore…” It can be assumed that either Ross or Walter had the ego issue.
