(Like murder)
Stoned I awoke in your temple
To blackness above you
And death beside me
(Where)
Kitchen knives conspire
Razor blades make bloodless love
(Like murder)
The ghost of a pale girl is solemnly following me
Will she follow me into the sea?
I feel the flowers screaming to consume you
(Like murder)
Earth and sky your cradle, earth and sky entomb you
And death beside me
I burrow through the dust in your skull
But I cannot seem to find your soul

Bloodless and numb, we orbit the sun
Hungry, will this pale thing follow me into the sea
On the cold side of her face, the reptiles awake
Locusts swarm from open mouths that sing thy kingdom come
While blackness hums

Nothing is true and I'm tired of your sad today
You're screaming because there's nothing left for you to say

Bloodless and numb, we orbit the sun
Hungry, will this pale thing follow me into the sea

Stoned I awoke in your temple
To blackness above you
And death beside me
(Where)
Kitchen knives conspire
Razor blades make bloodless love
(Like murder)

I think upon reflection that its talking about dying, as in one day he wakes up and realizes he will die, euthenasia abortion etc, hes walking around with it following him, the pale girl, then he dies, theres no soul, bloodless and numb, image of the ocean, indicating a vast nothingness in death, then blackness hums You're screaming because there's nothing left for you to say showing how people cant accept death, the last stanza is him in death, i think it was placed at the beginning for some poetic reason that i dont know, but again, just me rambling...

to me it seems like hes talking about murdering himself, "Nothing is true and I'm tired of your sad today" when depression sinks in and the numbing emptyness is welcomed yet inescapable. "Stoned I awoke in your temple To blackness above you And death beside me (Where) Kitchen knives conspire Razor blades make bloodless love (Like murder)"

and as he talks of this pale girl that follows and keeps him distressed (w/e shit may be going on with him) will she leave me in death. "follow me into the ocean"

thats my take but they dont really give much to help with interpretation.

I think that some of you got it half right. this song is not just about death in general. its about a guy who wakes up to find his girl-friend dead beside him. "stoned I awoke to your temple of blackness above you, and death beside me, where kitchen knives conspire razor blades make bloodless love- LIKE MURDER" his reference to the pale girl is the memory of her, pale and dead, following him to the sea means it'll haunt him the rest of his life. its made even more obvious with the line "i burrow through the dust in your skull, but I cannot seem to find your soul... nothing is true and I'm tired of your sad today..." come on people she killed herself. Does the song make any better sense? pretty messed up isn't it? but awesome tho...

Stoned I awoke in your temple to blackness above you... He was high and realized his girl was a dope whore while he was having sex with her.... Where kitchen knives conspire and razor blades make bloodless love... He's also in a dope house... The ghost of a pale girl following him is his strung out girl that he no longer feels attached to since this realization... He knows she wants his drugs so she follows him, but would she go as far as to follow him into the sea... He realizes that she is destined to o.d. And die... The flowers scream to consume you... And death beside me... He has the drugs... He tries to have actual conversation to connect with her and put the depressing thoughts behind him... But she seems soulless to him and hungry for dope... She starts throwing a fit for dope... The reptile aka venomous snake within her becomes obvious...they fight ....locusts...the humming blackness is their itch to get high... She screams at him until she gets what she wants, a fix....he gives in they get high again... Cold toward each other and numb to the world they continue their day to day relationship.... Bloodless and numb they orbit the sun... How far will it go... How long will they stay together repeating the bullshit... He has the same realization again as he sees it continue.... Stoned he awoke... Again

maybe its talking about a love gone bad, such as on the cold face of her face .... and so on, asking if the love will follow him forever to death, youre screamin because there is nothing left to say, maybe a fight

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
