The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.
Do you want it to be outside in the cool night,
Where the stars gravitate toward you?
Do you want it to be outside in the cool night, where
The fog wraps itself around you?
Do you want it to be outside in the sunshine,
Where the clouds take their places for you?
And the wind and snow and the rain that blows,
None of those would matter much without you.
And as long as its talking with you,
Talk of the weather will do.
Do you want it to be outside in the cool night,
Where the stars gravitate toward you?
Do you want it to be outside in the sunshine,
Where the song keeps itself inside you?
And the wind and snow and the rain that blows,
None of those would matter much without you.
Nobody's hoping for better days,
No one knows what to do.
You're ok in your secret ways,
No one bothering you.
It might save time if I meet you there
But I don't care, I'd rather wait for you.
And no one's home and the weathers fine,
I'd rather wait for you.
Where no one's home and the weathers fine,
I'd rather wait for you.

In regards to the meaning of this song:
Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.”
That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.
Son Şansın - Şarkı Sözleri
Hayalperest
Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere.
In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.
Holiday

@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday".
I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.
Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
This song is about a lost loved one.
It can be interpreted as Romantic or Sentimental. Take your pick.
"Do you want in to the outside..." is a reference to the great beyond but could also be interpreted as estrangement.
"Nobody's hoping for better days. No one knows what to do..." is describing the despair and unfamiliarity of such a loss.
"It might save time if I meet you there, but I don't care I'd rather wait for you." is describing the feeling of wanting to die but instead having to go on with life without seeing this person again. Acceptance of the loss.
This song is incredibily poetic.
RIP Jeremy.
I don't feel like I can give a large generalization for this song as with most built to spill songs, so here is a few lines:

Youre okay in your secret place,
With no one bothering you.
It might save time if I meet you there, but I dont care
Id rather wait for you.

This seems to be about opening up to someone in a relationship. We all have a "secret place" and it oftens seems better not to let anyone in there. Hes saying its ok if this person won't let him in right away. He'll wait.

As long as its talking with you,
Talk of the weather will do.

As everyone has said already. A great line. Its great because so much about love isn't about the big deep conversations(such as talking about your secret place). But when someone means something to you, even conversations about insignificant things are great. I always think about this lyric when I talk to people about the weather. Talking about the weather is such a default conversation when you have nothing to talk about. Its so meaningless. I kind of hate it and I think Doug Martsch might too.

Nobodys hoping for better days
No one knows what to do.

I can't help but want to relate this line to what I said already. When you have those deep connections with someone, it often seems like everyone else seems so shallow. Other conversations seem so meaningless.

Probably just based on my own experiences and relating it to myself, but this is how I took it.
You nailed it! Lyrics aside the music really tells the story.
What a beautiful song--and, again, nobody's commenting! "It might save time if I meet you there, but I don't care, I'd rather wait for you" To say that the waiting for his love give him satisfaction--it just feels right. I love using the weather as some kind emotional truth for love. And then some kid can tell me how "DEEP" Anthony Kideses lyrics are. To each his own--this is the reason I keep coming back to Built To Spill.
i imagine a girl with an aura, i seen it. most people know a girl like this. the weather, and nature, is such a geat way to relate your love with someone.
i love the idea of the type of girl with an aura...so much so that when you're with her it just seems like she can control the universe with every laugh/kiss ect. the whole world, and the weather revolves around being her her. i second your post
this is an amazing song, i just listened to it for the first time in a long time and realized what a great song it is. It is such a great love song "the stars gravitate towards you" my favorite though is "as long as it's talking with you, talk of the weather will do" taht is so perfect, there's nothing more that you can say about it
i've been seeing this girl, and we can relate. i've even commented on it with her. i've even said the chorus to her, "as long as it's a talk with you, talk of the weather will do." she smiled, and we kissed. built to spill rules.
what a great song. as you all have said. i wish i had doug martchs brain. anyway, this song can be played with G, Em, Bm, D, C, G, D. And so forth.
